I just returned from a one week stay at the Atlantic Cove Holiday Homes. I actually stayed in these homes 12 years ago when they were new, and I can assure you that the owners have not invested one penny in updating these properties. The properties are now warn and in need of updating. Still the homes were clean. We were a family of 6: 4 Adults and 2 Children. We stayed in unit 3. A lot of the other units have been sold or are now rented out as monthly year round rentals.
Kitchen: There were not enough plates, glasses, knives, fork, etc. The dish washer spring was broken, and I was worried that my 3 year old was going to hurt himself. The dryer did not work at all.
Living room: Couches were on the verge of being unusable. The back cushions were completely warn. We had to bring out our pillows from the bedroom in order to sit on the couch.
Bedrooms: Were comfortable and the pillows were adequate.
Rubbish Bin: The bins are picked up once a week. Ours had no lid so the birds picked the trash apart.
Bathrooms: One had a leak and leaked into the dining room. A “plumber” came to look at it and said that we needed a new tap. He said he would be back the next day to fix it. He never came.
Carpets: Warn but clean.
When I rent a place I expect everything that they advertise to work. Overall this experience was not worth the €800 per week that they charge. Don’t forget they nickel and dime you on additional charges on top of the weekly rental charge: €20 for the electricity and a mandatory €35 charge for oil that we didn’t use. Next time we will heat the hot water with oil and open all the windows to let the heat out.
Advice to owner: Spend €2500 for new couches, carpet and to fix what is broken. Clearly the owners are trying to squeeze every last penny out of these. I won’t be back as long as they are in their current state. As bad as this house was we had other family members staying in Summer Cove and they said their homes were in much worse condition than ours.
Lahinch is a great place for a family vacation, but look to see if there are better maintained holiday homes elsewhere.
