Be sure to wrap up warm if its a cold day. A great fort nestled up in Dunree with amazing views looking out into the water and surrounding land.

Not open during our visit even though there were about 20 cars in the car park so perhaps it should be open at the weekends even during winter? Lots of nice walks and stunning scenery with old buildings displaying amazing patina. Some of them are open so you can walk through the old military accommodation and see the old fireplaces etc. Some of the old guns and an armoured car are on display and accessible. Go behind the lighthouse to the viewing point which provides breathtaking views of the headland and sea.

Friends who live in the area brought us here on a rainy Sunday , well what an absolute gem scenery is just breathtaking a pity the weather was against us but we didn't let it spoil our walk around a unmissable place highly recommend

Came here recently for a refreshing winter walk. It was pouring down with rain the whole time but the views were still pretty spectacular. There's a number of different walks you can do, one slightly more strenuous than the others with a few steps to climb but the views at the top are worth it. Military guns/canons/tanks and information boards scattered around the walks. Plenty of picnic benches and shelters to enjoy the views should you get a better day than we did. Dogs allowed on the grounds. The museam was closed when we were there due to the Christmas holidays, €7 for adults entry. Even without doing the museam I would definitely recommend visiting the fort for a walk alone, it'll blow the cobwebs away for sure!
