We had a one night dinner bed and breakfast visit last week.
Storm Gareth was blowing and the rain was pouring down.
We arrived at about four in the afternoon and sadly the room wasn’t ready.(a bit disappointing as there seemed to be very few guests)
We were invited to sit at the big log fire and brought a tray of coffee and shortbread
which was nice.
There was a wide range of antique furniture throughout which was in character with the house.
Dinner started at six thirty so we braved the elements and walked along the shore and found a road which took us in a circuit back to the hotel(about 50 minutes )
On return the staff invited us to enjoy another log fire as we had a drink and ordered dinner.Staff were friendly and relaxed and the food was good.
Breakfast was ala crate without the usual buffet ,but all was freshly cooked.
To up of tea came when we asked and bread was sufficient.
(Only suggestion might be that most people like the tea and toast first ,before the fry .
I had to ask for the tea after the cooked food was delivered)
It was an enjoyable break in spite of the weather.
I did point out that Room 2 did not have wi fi signal and as we were only staying one night this was not a problem.

Room tip: Best views are probably upstairs

Dear Guest

Thank you so much for braving the storm with us, despite the weather I think it added to the cosiness and charm of the evening, tucked inside by the log fire as the rain belted down outside and the wind howled all night.
We are so happy to read your comments and delighted to hear you enjoyed your evening. I do want to apologise re the wi fi signal in your room at that time, we were having some difficulties at that end of the house but our entire wi fi system has since been upgraded throughout the whole house.
Re the late check on, again we are sorry if this inconvenienced you, we had a small issue with a departing guest and they needed to keep the room a little later than normal, so we do apologise for the small delay here.
we do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back again soon and hopefully the weather will be a little calmer next time.

Kindest regards,
Irene

I recently visited the hotel with my husband for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely fabulous. Everything was great from the welcome by the staff to the standard of the food and for a venue of such a high standard, the Sunday lunch prices were no more expensive than an average Sunday lunch elsewhere. There was a fantastic selection of dishes to suit all tastes and despite being very busy with a Sunday service, there was no pushing to get in and out like is often the case for a busy Sunday dinner service in other establishments. The desserts in particular were just fabulous. Thoroughly recommend Sunday lunch as it was truly gorgeous and we will be back soon.

This hotel was a gem of a find. The staff were friendly, diligent and very helpful. There was free tea and coffee at any time and wonderful drawing rooms to sit in to relax in the morning, read, share a chat with friends or have a drink whilst waiting for dinner in the stunning dining room.

The room we had was probably the nicest we have ever stayed in. True to the Country House style it contained gorgeous old furniture a huge antique bed, was very spacious and had a good sized bathroom. The views of the grounds and Drongawn lough were so tranquil and lovely.

The Dinner was stunning! Food is incredible in this hotel. Michelin star I think. We could see why. We ate breakfast here every day and ate dinner here 2 out of 3 nights. Everything we ate was the best of the best.
Absolutely loved it. A food lovers must.

The location is also excellent, being just outside of Letterkenny between Letterkenny and Ramelton, a charming little village on your way along the Fanad peninsula. Letterkenny is a big town with shops, restaurants, cafes and everything you might need at your disposal.

This hotel is possibly best for small groups, small wedding parties (you should see their flower displays!) and couples. It's romantic, its decadent and idyllic.

Room tip: We stayed in the George B Shaw room. It was fabulous.

Beautiful country house hotel situated outside Letterkenny.
Upon arrival we were met at the front door by Karoline and immediately made very welcome.
We had booked a superior room and were upgraded to a suite. The suite was great with large four poster bed and lovely sitting room and furnished with original antiques as is the rest of the property
The hotel is owned by the Sweeney family and they reside on the property so it is really like staying with friends.
The property has three beautiful sitting rooms for relaxing with complementary tea or coffee.
The food in the restaurant was great and staff were very attentive.
Everything for breakfast is ordered off a menu and is freshly prepared and like the evening meal was lovely.

This is a beautiful property made special by the friendliness of the Sweeney family
This was our first visit but not our last.

Words cannot fully describe how lovey the property is so I have included some fotos

Well what can I say... Castle Grove is a beautiful country house hotel. From the moment we arrived to the hotel we were greeted with open arms and treated like royalty. Karoline and Irene made us feel right at home, there warm welcome and great conversation and there fond interest in our little girl who they played with and kept entertained. All the staff from the housekeepers to reception and the waiters and waitresses, your hospitality was so welcoming and inviting.

The hotel reeks with character, style and class and the staff are extremely friendly, very welcoming and Mary T is a shinning beacon when it comes to the extensive history of the house and her passion for life and hard work is remarkable a true lady.

Our room overlooked the beautiful front gardens and what a remarkable room. Styled in period antique furniture and lavish bed wear. Our room was so warm and cosy, it was just perfect, full of character.

We spent our first night by the fire with the family and there was so much laughter, we where so lucky to drink the Castle Grove strawberry Gin and what a drink. We have recommended this to so many people and to everyone who was staying the same night as we where.

The next morning we drew back the curtains to find we could see nothing past the Georgian glass window panes, the fog was so dense, just magical. We headed down to breakfast and had a lovely freshly baked Irish breakfast.

Soon after breakfast we had the pleasure of watching Santa appear from the foggy drive with his sleigh bells jingling and his horse drawn sleigh. It was a magical moment something money could never buy. It was like a clip from a blockbusting movie. The atmosphere was phenomenal, there was so much magic in the air. All the children were screaming Santa, we could hear his sleigh bells but couldn’t see him through the fog and all of a sudden Santa appeared in all delight. Our little girl was mesmerised and the excitement in her little eyes was just priceless as was all the little kids and parents as well. We watched Santa pull up to the house and on hoped Mary T the lady of the house and it was amazing. The excitement in her face.

We have made so many memories here at Castle Grove and we look to these wonderful people as family now.

Thank you so much for the most amazing stay and food. We can’t wait to return and hopefully for a lot longer and maybe for Christmas Day. xxxx
