I stayed here with my family and while the location was lovely and the building itself is gorgeous and well maintained, on more than one occasion we found ourselves scratching our heads at some of the goings on at this establishment.

First mention would be the front gate. There is so much innecessity just to enter and leave a building. As paying guests, no one should have to stand in the rain and press a buzzer to contact reception and ask for the gate to be opened (which does so very slowly by the way) every single time they leave the hotel. Yes, security is important, but surely a new method could be devised whereby actual guests don't have to go through this rigmarole of buzzing in every single time and awkwardly explaining "we are the guests that left ten minutes ago, let us in"? On that note, when guests first arrive, there is no explanation of this system, so we were at a loss where we park, where we go, how do we speak to. There was a female member of staff actually in the car park the day we arrived, clearly too busy on her phone to assist us given that we were clearly confused.

The building itself is pretty but far too 'museum-esque' to be considered welcoming or friendly. A lot of money has clearly been pumped into the aesthetic appeal but less so on the atmosphere, which is cold and almost foreboding upon first arrival in the reception area.

The rooms are lovely, very nicely decorated, clean, very peaceful at night, no complaints at all. The food is nice, only complaint would be that there is no in-hotel dining, you have to trudge outside and follow poorly-marked directions to what looks like a garage, wherein you are served your dinner. You're then faced with a cold blast of air coming in the doors, which the hotel attempts to offset by turning on overhead heaters which are uncomfortable to sit under.

The breakfast is served in the hotel but the policy seems to be 'scrimp and save'. A family of four being served with slivers of butter and jam which you have to physically ask for, along with other things, was a very unusual experience. Bemusing is the word maybe. In this sense, Rockhill lacks a certain bit of customer service.

Overall, Rockhill is nice. Would stay in a pinch but very overpriced all things considered. Some things warrant rehashing for sure. A lift wouldn't go astray either. Some staff need to learn manners, others, including the young brunette girl who was at reception, were fantastic. Worth a shot but mind your money.

Stayed in a suite with the garden view. Friendly service, lovely breakfast and a beautiful room. Staff helped us with recommendations of local places to eat and drink. Lovely gardens too. Undiscovered gem - Will be staying again. Perfect in every way.

My parents booked 2 nights here for their 40th wedding anniversary and have received word this week that the booking can no longer be honoured as the wedding taking place the day before have decided to stay another night therefore acquiring all the rooms. I don’t need to say much more, it speaks for itself in terms of woeful service that my parents are being cancelled and offered different dates. We’ve never heard anything like it before - there shouldnt be ‘book a room’ option on your site at all if weddings are the sole priority because any sole booking is at risk .. clearly.
