Terrible and overpriced

Review of Hotel Minella
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Jan 2020
My partner and I dined in the bar of this hotel, and from start to finish it was horrendous.

We were seated at a table of 4,and another man joined our table half way through our meal, which was quite awkward and a bit bizarre as there were other tables available.

We ordered from the bar food menu, I got the minella burger which was overcooked and just not nice, it was like something you would get from a chip van. The chips that came with it were fine.

My partner ordered the fillet steak, which is priced at €30. She asked for just steak and vegetables, as she didn't want the potatoes, onions, mushrooms or gravy that were listed as accompanying it. She was not asked if she wanted extra anything instead of the items she didn't want.

The steak was gristly and very greasy, wasn't cooked how she asked for it, and the veg was minimal. The real problem came when we went to pay, I mentioned that she didn't have potatoes, onions, mushrooms or gravy so it was hardly going to be the full €30. I was told the price is the price. This is just terrible practice, if the price is the price then the waitress should have asked if she wanted extra veg or anything instead of the items she didn't want.

So all in all, terrible service and worse food, will not be back. Avoid at all costs.

From the time of our arrival to our departure I cannot fault the Minella Hotel. Greeted with friendly smile we found our rooms warm, clean and very well kept. Loved the drawing room where we could relax. Food although a little pricey was very nice - would recommend the fillet steak. Leisure centre was great with an outside hot tub overlooking the River Suir. Really liked the quaint look and despite functions on both nights you wouldnt know. Will definitely be back. 👍

I recently spent one night in this Family run Hotel and felt welcomed from the moment I stepped into reception. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent with quality locally sourced food served. Very comfortable beds. I'd highly recommend a stay here and hope to return in the very near future.

Popped in casually to this hotel with a few friends for lunch a few weeks ago. We were greeted by a very friendly and efficient Receptionist (Ann). We were too early for lunch so while waiting Ann gave us a brief history of the Hotel and explained that the 2 big portraits at entrance were actually the owners parents and were the previous owners. She pointed out the beautiful river walk on the grounds and listed some intereting things to do on our return visit. Food was delicious and so well presented. The personal service we received here made our visit. If there were more Ann's as Receptionists in Hotels across Ireland tourism would be booming. Well done Minella we WILL be back as you do go that EXTRA MILE.

A year has passed , and miss its ambience. A very comfy place with beautiful natural surroundings. A very quite place and the food also sumptuous.

If you want to spend the best times be at Minella. You will always want to be there again and again. If you are visiting Ireland be at Minella.

Room tip: All rooms are good but the ones facing the river are just marvellous

Spent a lovely relaxing break during last weekend in the Minella. I have stayed in the Minella a lot but hadn’t been back for over three years. It was great to be recognised by Helen in reception and to be looked after so well.

We had a lovely comfortable room and had lunch and dinner in the bar. Both were excellent. After a very tasty breakfast next morning it was time for a walk around the hotel grounds before leaving. I hope to be back soon.
