A Fascinating History

Stayed while cycling the Wild Atlantic Way.A fascinating historic building but our room although comfortable was very small.Why were we given a room with disabled facilities?We felt that the hosts needed a course in hospitality training.Nothing explained to us so it was quite a surprise to discover a tea tray of kettle, tea cups etc.,in the wardrobe.The food however was excellent if over priced and the chef superb.Probably the most mediocre Irish welcome we have ever received anywhere.

A fantastic start to our journey

We planned to tour the Ring and based ourselves in Waterville with Margaret and Alan. We were welcomed by Margaret and shown to our room. Dinner was arranged for 7.30pm. Bronagh produced a meal which would be at home in a very high end restaurant. Alan was the consummate host and we chatted easily between courses. Breakfast each morning was sublime and incredibly flavourful. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a homely feel. This establishment is well situated and a very short walk into town. I would highly recommend The Old Cable House for anyone staying in Waterville.

Quaint B&B

It is nearly 100 years old with lots of artifacts from it's original use. Water pressure left a little to be desired, but beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Allen and his daughter were delightful. And their restaurant located in the back was excellent. Highly recommend the salmon and poached eggs for breakfast

Grumpy and inhospitable hosts. Bed with no breakfast.

➖ Very grumpy owners. Husband was surly and unwelcoming. He couldn’t recommend anywhere for dinner despite it being a small village. (Their restaurant was closed.)
Wife actively avoided me for no reason - she saw me but chose to close the door rather than say hello.
No breakfast was available despite the owner stating, only a week or two beforehand, that it would be. Simple toast and cereal would have been ok with us, but even that wasn’t possible.
One of reasons I had booked there was the history of the house. The listing implied that the hosts would be willing to tell us about it and there was a display of sorts. No such luck.
We left as soon as we could the following day.

➕ The bed was relatively comfortable. The room and en-suite were clean and there was off-street parking. The price was ok.

Old and unloved

Host and owner was the rudiest Irish person ever. When an owner of this sort of business has had enough as in the case of this man they should sell up and move on. Avoid this place that is dated and empty. Booked out early to avoid further confrontation with the owner.
