Stayed here a couple of nights recently. This is a delightfully calm and relaxing hotel. Lovely pastel tartan shades in my bedroom, all the corridors and bar. Lashings of very hot water. Firm comfortable beds. The restaurant was stylish, the service uniformly attentive. It was easy to feel at home.
Both evening meals in the restaurant were very good. There's some excellent fish and shellfish on offer - the crabe au gratin is simple but fresh and tasty. The black sole (= Dover sole) with butter and capers was perfectly cooked. The rack of lamb and steaks were also very good. The wine list had plenty of variety and was slightly on the pricey side.
Was there a blot on the landscape? Just one. Whilst the breakfasts were generally fine - good quality bacon and sausages - the scrambled egg was a huge disappointment. What arrived looked at though it had been cooked in a small pot in which it had then been kept too hot for too long. It was completely solid. It almost had to be carved on the plate. A shame...
All in all though, there is much to enjoy about this place.More
