Family break

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Mar 2024via mobile
We arrived on the 4th of March and left on the 6th . I have to say the staff where so kind and helpful. The food was second to none we dined in the bar and it was lovely. Our room was clean and bright. There was a small problem in the bathroom the door stopper was right infront of the toilet I felt it was a bit of a hazard as I kicked it by accident. Other then that our experience was absolutely fab and I would definitely use yer hotel again

Very expensive for what it is. When you pay €200 a night for a small town hotel in February, the expectations are high. However, this Radisson Blu does not deliver. Most shocking was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms, they were very warm and stuffy, with windows that barely open and no ventilation of any kind. Very uncomfortable and unsanitary, making you wonder if that is even legal? Also no breakfast, and limited parking in an exceedingly dirty car park. Overall the hotel is disappointing and hugely overpriced.

I had a lovely stay in the Radisson. The Hotel is in a great location and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

The gym and the pool was great and the staff in the gym were lovely to deal. The gym looks out onto the river and at dusk or dawn it is a lovely view.

Breakfast is really nice. Tulay & the staff there were very very friendly each morning I met them.

Room tip: Parking is right outside the hotel. Bring €1 or €0.50 for the lockers in the pool.

Stayed here for 1 night, we were at a wedding near by so we did not have dinner in the hotel. Room was decent and hotel is a good base for visiting the town of Athlone as it is within walking distance of the town. Waited a long time at reception to get checked in as it was exceptionally busy. Breakfast was below average, burnt toast and strange looking sausages. Had to ask for tea 3 times from the server.

Dear D1645SKbarbsd,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with us. We are delighted you enjoyed our central location. However, we regret your experience with breakfast was below the expected standard. I have provided the chef and host with your feedback, and they will work diligently to deliver a greater standard going forward. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you again soon.

I am just back from a recent stay with my 92 year old Nanny and we had a ball. From the moment we checked in our room was ready which was two hours before official check in time. We had a beautiful view of boats on the river from our bedroom window on the third floor. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable I have ever experienced in any hotel. The location was ideal and within walking distance to shops and bars. There was entertainment in Sean's bar midweek which we throughly enjoyed and also enjoyed a lovely meal in Gertie Brown's which was directly across from the hotel. Breakfast was included in our stay with a wide variety to choose from. After an excellent breakfast the icing on the cake for us before we left the Radisson Blu was the pleasure we had of meeting Avril who went out of her way to chat with us and was extremely friendly. We had a good laugh and Avril showed a great interest in my Nanny as my Nanny was telling her of her experiences during WW2. This left us with wonderful memories of our visit. My Nanny has stayed in Athlone before but this was her first visit to the Radisson Blu. This was my xmas present to me Nan before I move away and Nanny said if she lives long enough she would like to return again 😅 so a million thanks to you Avril. I would highly recommend it will not disappoint.

Disappointing New Year's Eve stay. No issues on our first night we all stayed in the bar/ restaurant area past mid night enjoying the music etc but New Year's eve we were asked to move out to the cold conservatory area (reception area has a couple of tables but it was full) after our meal as children arent premitted after 9pm. There's heaters out there but they aren't great for that time of the year & they've to be turned on every half hour or so. We were a group if 10 adults & 2 children. Small complaints from each of the rooms we had.
There was a charge of €15 for a 4 year olds breakfast. A large crack in one of the tables where the pull out bed was, cables hanging from the walls, numerous key cards needed to keep the electricity on in one room, ridiculous room service charge to have a pizza delivered. One member of our party left a review on another site & was offered an over night stay if he removed the review. I have emailed the hotel on 2 occasions, the first time I was told the email would be sent to the Guest Relations Manager & she'd be in touch ASAP, I sent a follow up email a week later & I didn't hear from the manager. 2 weeks later & we've still had no correspondence from them. This hotel would be suitable to a couple out & about in the town but I dont think it's suited to a family with children. I understand there's rule & regulations with children being where alcohol is served but these rules need to be in place every night & not just one of the busiest nights of the year.

Dear Eimear,

Thank you for reviewing your recent experience with us.

We regret the law impacted your celebrations, excluding children from licenced premises. As a parent or guardian, you would also be breaking the law and subject to a fine totalling 300 euros for permitting children under your care to remain in licenced premises after 9 pm.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the minor issues you experienced in your room. I would like to explain the reason behind these issues. If the card is not inserted completely into the electricity slot, the electricity will not work. If we had been informed of this issue, we would have helped you immediately. Please note that there is no need to insert multiple cards.

The keycard system was upgraded during your visit, which required the installation of new locks and data cables. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by our appearance during this time.

There is a tray charge for room service; this charge does not apply should you upgrade your room, but it is standard in all standard rooms in keeping with other hotels. It is a service for which a staff member must take time to prepare and deliver your food.

We regret any inconvenience caused; however, this is beyond our control as it is a legal requirement for all involved.

Should you wish to discuss this further I am available for a call. Please email me at guestexperience.athlone@radissonblu.com and we can arrange a call at your convenience.

Warmest regards,
Jacqueline Berry
