Stayed in Hodson Bay last week after a funeral. We arrived on a beautiful evening and the views were spectacular. The first thing we noticed was the smell, not very inviting. The room we got, in the old part of the hotel was small and pokey. The shower was in the bath but was strong hot and refreshing. The bar was small and cramped and the staff were excellent. Our evening was ok. Breakfast was excellent. We didn't get to use the facilities or to see the new part. Maybe better suited to families.

We were attending the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan and decided to stay here for the one night we were away.

The hotel itself is in a very pretty location and easily found and check in was ok - although I would have expected there to be more than one person on reception at 6 ish to keep things moving.

My room was a little dated and the shower was not all that (quite old and didn't seem to want to get hot) but the bar area was decent with a good choice of beers and lagers.

We ate in the bar - the service was excellent but the food was a bit hit and miss.

I had the soup to start which was delicious and then we had the Seafood platter which despite sounding good was a bit over cooked and all deep fried!

I didnt get a chance to use the leisure centre but it looked awesome and the view over the bay was very pretty

This is a very average hotel in a beautiful location.
This review is simply an account of the disastrous experience when had we stayed at the hotel last week.
On checking in at reception we were shocked to be told that there was no record at all of our booking. We had booked on-line, paid in full in advance and were able to produce printouts of the confirmation of our booking along with a hotel voucher. We were reassured by the young woman on reception, who took our documents, that, although the hotel had never heard of the booking agent we had used and although they couldn't recall receiving any reservations through them, they would look into it and as they had plenty of free rooms, would be happy to allocate us an upgraded room. We in turn were very happy with the customer service we had received and rather stupidly assumed that the problem would be sorted out by the hotel and that would be the end of it.
The following morning on checking out we were greeted with grim expressions and hushed voices. We were told that because of our booking situation we would have pay again. Apparently they had been unable to contact the agent, implying that we had been the victims of a scam. After some discussion that mainly went along the lines of ' if you can get the agent to pay us will will refund the cost of your room', not wanting to cause a scene at reception we paid and left. Once in the car park we called the agent whose reached straight away and who was fully aware we'd checked in the previous evening. She said she would get back to us with more information. We returned to the hotel, explained that we had very easily been able to reach the agent and at the same time showed them the website of the booking agent and the advertisement of Hodson Bay Hotel on our phone.
We are now in contact with the agent having sent copies of our invoice and all the details of our stay. Who knows what the outcome will be? We have been left in a situation where, we booked this hotel on a website, the agent is taking bookings that are not being communicated and we have paid twice. I am writing this as a warning and to point out that the hotel was far more concerned about getting money out of us than it ever was that others may be put in the same situation and putting it right.

We travelled down for a short break, hotel was lovely, only one major issue...totally overrun with children who had parents able to totally ignore their atrocious behaviour. Areas clearly marked adult only after 7:30 was still overrun with small children. Breakfast was another story, good food , nice room but noisy children again ruined the experience. The food in the restaurant I the evening was lovely, service was excellent. Our room was great. This is a lovely hotel, but our trip was marred by the bad behaviour of children.

Just back from a very enjoyable stay at the Hodson Bay hotel where we stayed in a delux retreat room which had the most amazing views of the lake and surrounding areas.

The room was large with a huge bathroom, both of which were impeccably clean.

We eat in both the bar and in the restaurant while we stayed there and both meals were very good. The restaurant in particular was excellent with every attentive staff.

Overall a comfortable and enjoyable stay with kind and genuine staff making the trip even better.

Room tip: Retreat room are worth the extra
