“great value hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2009

Having recently spent a couple of nights in a 4-star Galway city centre hotel, I arrived at Sullivan's with pretty low expectations on what I would find. But what a pleasant surprise. It was difficult to fault the hotel or its staff at this price range. The room was spacious and spotless, the food was basic in choice but of a good standard, and the hotel staff could not have been more helpful and hospitable. Gort is a good stopping place for those touring - close enough for a trip into Galway city and gateway to the spectacular beauty of County Clare. The hotel is located right in the centre of this lively town. I will cetainly go back to this hotel.

I was at a wedding in Gort and booked into Sullivans for the weekend. I was a bit apprehensive after the terrible review but it was cheap and it was only for the weekend and we didn't intend to be there long so we took a chance. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and our room was large, newly renovated with a plasma tv and good shower, so far so good.
The morning after the wedding we had the full Irish breakfast which was very nice and after doing some touring around the Burren we came back and had our evening meal which was great value for money.
Overall it was an enjoyable stay , the hotel is old and getting an actual key for your room is a bit of a novelty nowadays but it has a bit of character which is lacking in a lot of the newly built generic hotels. The only problem was the colour of the water but mineral water was provided in the rooms for tea and coffee and brushing teeth so I would recommend anyone to stay here and enjoy real Irish hospitality, it isn't 5 star its more like staying in a friends house.

I stayed in Sullivans Hotel 3 nights midweek on business, I was a bit apprehensive because of the price but I was on a budget. I was pleasently surprised, the rooms we clean and newly renovated with flat screen tvs and a good shower, the food was of a good standard and the staff were helpful and friendly, what more do you want on a work related stay. The hotel is old and the bars and reception are a bit dated but it has character which is so lacking in budget hotel chains. The water was the only problem I had on my stay, it is yellow/green and looks like the toilets haven't been flushed but the hotel does provide mineral water in the rooms free of charge. The staff assured me that it was safe to drink but that that it is a local authority problem due to lack of investstment in the town

With all this talk recently of rip off Ireland i felt compelled to write a review about Sullivans Hotel.
To be honest expectations weren't high on hearing the room rates but we were pleasantly suprised on checking in... nicely renovated, clean rooms complete with plasma tv and the all important tea/coffee and biscuits....Pleasant,efficient staff greeted us in the morning (sunday) at twelve o clock offering us breakfast...for once we weren't being penalised for having a late night out in catholic Ireland!!

on our arrival to the hotel we met a very friendly receptionist who checked us in immediately. After a rest we ventured down to the bar where we had a lovely meal followed by a few drinks and enjoyed the company of some of the local characters. the rooms were newly refurbished, great value & spotless. we will definately be returning in the near future
