The grounds are a pleasure to walk around and quite extensive. There's a cafe there also that serves great lunches up til about 4pm. No charge for entry to the grounds or for parking which is pretty good.
This place (Coole Park) is a must for a visit and believe it or not and it's free. So if you go down to the woods to day then you'll be in for a pleasant surprise. This park is a very big woods with a massive walking trails and to finish it off you can visit the cafe that is there with a big picnic area nearby to chill out.
This is a low key but high quality visitor experience at what was once the home of Lady Gregory an iconic figure of the Irish Literary Revival. A well research introductory film combined with a small but insightful exhibition covers Lady Gregory's life. The cafe has quality food cooked freshly on site & the e surrounding gardens & walking trails are superb.
This place is lovely for a walk with a buggy. There are a few different routes to take in there, I opted for the woods trail which takes around 1 hr with a buggy. The path gets a bit stony in places but a lot has been re surfaced and very smooth. The walk is well shaded too which means you don't have to worry so much about the sun shining on baby's face. I brought a picnic to have in the walled garden at the end which is really nice. There are some benches under trees or completely covered if it rains. The coffee shop is good too. Free parking and free entry!
Coole House sadly is no more but the wonderful parklands remain. The authograph tree on the grounds is well worth a visit. It was signed by many of the famous literary figures of the 20th Century. There are lots of picnic tables available in this area and it makes for a lovely spot for a family get together. Weather permitting???? This is Ireland!!!!
An interpative centre exists and gives one lots of information on the geography of the area and also on the history of the house itself. A coffee shop and toilet facilities are located in this section of the park.
A number of walks are laid out and even take one to the famous Coole Lake the setting for Yeats- Wild Swans poem. Other pathways lead into the forest itself. These are not difficult walks but could be slippy in wet weather.
This is a third component to the Yeats trail in South county Galway and really is a piece of literary history. Go enjoy and soak up the peaceful and tranquil setting that is Coole Park,
I visited Coole Park this afternoon. We went for a lovely walk around the grounds. It's so peaceful and has beautiful trees and a beautiful lake. We went for breakfast in the Coole Park tea rooms.the staff were so friendly and helpful and we enjoyed a lovely freshly cooked breakfast of bacon, sausages, mushrooms and a fried egg and some good wholesome brown bread bread and tea.my partner had scrambled egg, grilled tomato and brown bread and a lovely cup of coffee. I would highly recommend this place.great value €14.
