House was perfect for us, four couples, it was spacious, clean, up to date amenities. Owners, Viv and Ger were wonderful to work with. They left champagne for us upon arrival, as well as tea and coffee. Scenic location, ruins close by within walking distance, lots of hiking if you want to hill climb. Close to Skellig Michael boat launch, close to beautiful beaches, great location for touring the ring of Kerry. We enjoyed cooking at the house each evening after a day of site seeing and touring around. Best Holiday ever!

Thank you Vivienne.
A very warm and personal service, the owners went out of their way to ensure we were as comfortable as possible and that we had all the local information to hand.
I stayed at The Gathering with a group of friends over the Whitsun BH weekend and we had a wonderful time. The owners Viv and Ger made a number of helpful suggestions to help us plan our tour of Kerry, and generally answer emails promptly. The answers to all questions can be found in the thoughtfully-written brochure in the kitchen, but Viv and Ger are always contactable if need be.
Where do I start? We reached the cottage late, tired and with high expectations, and were not disappointed! Its important to remember that this is someone’s home – and what a lovely home it is, no shortage of comforts! - and that its treated as such. The accommodation is very spacious and simply but beautifully appointed, with lots of common spaces including a sociable kitchen / diner area leading onto a sunroom, and an outdoor seating area where we had breakfast every morning in the beautiful Kerry sunshine. There was an additional living room, which I made good use of, and a huge communal loft room that we never actually used but I would imagine others do on rainy days! There were even some touches we weren’t expecting, such as a tray of goodies to get us started (demolished fast), bathrobes (which we all used), books, DVDs and board games (not used) and baking equipment should we have felt the need to make a cake :) . Bikes and a barbeque are stored in the porch. Extra quilts, towels, soap, cleaning materials, tissues etc are seemingly small things but having them to hand makes a big difference in self-catering accommodation. The only thing I would recommend taking is a pair of light slippers / flipflops as the house has stripped flooring rather than carpets.
The location is a 2½ -3 hour drive from Cork Airport, in a lovely setting that is ideal for hill walking, and the advantage of views across the pensinsula. Caharsiveen is a quiet place but has all the local amenities you will need, and as with any town on the ring, makes for a good base for travelling. If you have any questions about the accommodation before you book, I would strongly recommend you email the owners directly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for large groups, and indeed go again.
