I found this museum to be well worth my time. I learned a lot about the history and culture of Connemara and Clifden. It has fascinating displays about the Alcock & Brown landing and Connemara ponies.

“Educational and Entertaining!”

The Heritage Centre offers a brief film and a small museum, but by far the BEST part of the experience is the tour that you get with "Martin" who drives you up the side of the mountain to an authentically restored Irish cottage. Along the way he explains a number of things including how/why turf was harvested for fuel, etc. He talks about the history of the Celts, the Famine, the Land Laws, etc. Inside the cottage a turf fire burns as Martin gives you a fascinating review of Irish history. He breaks into a capella song and offers everyone a shot of the homemade poteen. It's a great tour and well worth your time (about an hour). Appropriate for all ages.
