Attraction details
Owner description: Snuggled in a wooded setting among the rich quiet farmlands of the Golden Vale by the River Maigue, Adare is a model village dating from the time of the Norman conquest. It has been home to the Earls of Dunraven (Quin Family) for over three centuries and is located on the Limerick to Tralee road, the N21, a great pit stop for those on the way to the Ring of Kerry. The Adare Heritage Centre, located in the middle of this charming town with its many thatched houses, allows you to step back in time through an informative historical exhibition, also incorporating a tourist office, gift, craft and heraldry outlets, and a restaurant. During Summer months - June-September - The Desmond Castle tour exclusively runs from the Heritage Centre 7 days a week, with a new tour every hour.

Stopped at Heritage Center to learn about the history of the area. The coffee shop was an excellent place for a quick lunch. The staff was very helpful giving advice for the area. The gift shops and Heraldry Center stocked interesting items.

“Just okay ”

Stopped of here for a look around. The place it's self if very tired looking. Could do with some money being spent on it. The food in the coffee shop was nice. Location perfect for looking around the picture perfect village.

“Heritage center”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2016 via mobile

The Heritage center has a very small museum. There is a gift shop and visitor info booth inside. The whole place can be done in 15-20 minutes. The girl at the info booth did advise us to take a pleasant walk via the back door, up a side street and down following the river. It was refreshing and we saw a bit of wildlife (swans, blue herons and ducks). Parking in back of center is large.

“A good place to start when visiting Adare. Also handy for a quick lunch.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2016

The Heritage Centre is helpful for:
- information about Adare and what to see there (besides the thatched cottages of course)
- signing up for a castle tour (set times)
- few gift shops (one has a nice selection of beautiful Irish linens)
- coffee or lunch in the cafeteria. It's busy but there's a good selection & lots of seating. My sandwich (chicken w/ dressing) was really good - the desserts looked good too. If you don't want to spend too much time having lunch, it's a good option.
- public washrooms
- a small but good exhibit about Adare's history
- Currans Heraldry where you can find info about your Irish family name, crest, etc. I was able to find the names/crests for all 3 ancestor's names I was looking for. If you can't find it, ask him.
- The bus from Limerick dropped me off across the street and the bus going back picked me up right in front (8.80 Euro return). Easy & convenient.
- the Town Park across the street is beautiful & worth a stroll through
