I liked the location up on a hill away from tourists. It's easy walking distance from downtown, even with luggage. It's near the Desmond Castle and churches. The big gold lettering in the side of the building attracted me when I was searching for a hotel off the beaten path.

We stayed 2 nights at Friars Lodge. Pulled in to town and called a few places, and we liked the sound of Mary's voice when we spoke with her and we were right! She gave us a key to look at the room... a large room with sitting area and 2 beds...we were sold!
Friars is a street away from downtown and right next door to a lovely old church. There is an elevator,on site free parking, wifi, and the breakfast is wonderful. Mary will take good care of you! Great value.

Myself and my other half stayed here for the Jazz festival in 2015 and loved the place so much we decided to come back again this year and bring our two friends. It's a lovely place to stay, the rooms are huge and clean and have all of the facilities you could possibly need including an iron and ironing board in the rooms, toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee. The beds are so comfortable and the breakfast is lovely, they offer fresh catch of the day and other lovely stuff. It's just up the hill from the town so you're just a short stroll away and it's nice and peaceful so you'll have a nice sleep. Couldn't not recommend this place enough.

We stayed at the Friar's Lodge two nights. We had a large room with two queen beds (only needed and used one). It is modern, has an elevator, good bathroom and comfortable sitting chairs. The breakfast room is inviting and the waitresses do a good job getting the meals out. They have brandy in the lobby in the evening. That's a nice touch. Parking is readily available and easy to access. Kinsale streets are confusing and you might have trouble finding the hotel.

As noted in other reviews, Friar's Lodge is a bit dated in their decor, but the charm and friendliness of the staff, clean rooms with plenty of space to spread out AND free off street parking is well worth overlooking the decor. Plus, we were not there to spend time in our room but out and about in Kinsale. Location is quiet, but easy short walk down to the main hub of Kinsale. Breakfast is amazing.. hot options made up fresh when you order as well as cold serve-yourself.

We had a ground floor room that faced the street, so if you don't like passers-by glancing in your window, keep your drapes shut... or stay on a higher floor. We liked the convenience of being able to easily pop in and out.

We would not hesitate to stay here again if we are ever back in Kinsale.
