The Trident Hotel is at the end of the downtown area on a fairly busy street, but inside the hotel it was very quiet. Our room looked directly out onto the harbor and the homes on the far side of the bay (dubbed Millionaire's Row) by some.
Parking can be tight. We arrived to check in around 7pm. While they have a private parking lot, it is limited, and we arrived later in the evening and while there was an outside event being hosted at the hotel. Needless to say, parking in the lot was quite "creative." By 10pm, everything had thinned out a bit and we were able to move from our self-created parking slot to a legit one. During normal daytime hours, the parking lot is much less crowded, though we also noticed that by the evening hours, it did fill up again. Keep this is mind.
Onto the hotel. Our room was of good size and well appointed. Everything was clean. We stayed over for two nights. The room refresh was prompt and well done. We did not spend much time in our room. Almost all of our time was spent walking around and discovering Kinsale and Charles Fort across the bay. We also did not eat at the hotel restaurant. Check-in and check-out was flawless.
Walking from the hotel to all the places of interest in downtown Kinsale take sno more than 10 minutes. Once we parked our car the first night, we did not touch it again until we left (we wanted our parking spot!). One of the walking tours suggested for us to visit Charles Fort across and down the bay. The distance is not that far (a mile, mile and a half?), but is very hilly (steep in some areas) and most of the walk is along the "shoulder" shoulder of the road. Fortunately, as we learned in Ireland, drivers are usually very patient and aware of pedestrians. So, the walk took about 40-45 minutes, but the tour of the fort was worth it.
