We had our Civil Partnership Ceremony in Fernhill House Hotel on the 11.11.11 and we could not fault the hotel in anyway. When we booked the venue we were treated very well by Caroline the wedding coordinator and the O’Neill Family. Caroline spent at least an hour with us going showing us around the hotel and advising us of all the hotel had to offer. As Civil Partnerships are new to Ireland we wanted our day to be as special as everyone else’s and that is why we chose Fernhill because of the privacy of the hotel and how intimate it was. We had around 140 guests and the hotel was ours for the day, this was a huge selling point for us because we knew that whoever was in the hotel that day was there for us and there wasn’t anyone wondering who the “bride & groom were” as we know people are still getting used to Civil Partnerships.
Our Ceremony and meal were both held in the function room and because of this we wanted to try to create a room within a room. We used Marie from Cover Story to help us with this and she did a brilliant job. We had 3 backdrops in the room, lanterns, etc and the hotel had no issues with this at all and we were allowed to decorate the room however we pleased. Nothing was too much for the staff in the hotel, no matter what we wanted they always obliged. The function room then had to be turned around after the Ceremony and set up for the meal which was a big job for the staff but they did a fantastic job in having the room ready for the meal. We choose the menu for the day and the food that was served was 5 star quality. The staff in the hotel were brilliant, the service at the meal was top notch. The owner of the hotel Michael O’Neill was on hand after the ceremony to take us down to the gardens in a golf buggy so we could have our photographs taken down there – this was an additional bonus for us as well.
All our guests are still commenting on how good the day was, how good the food was, the venue and the staff. I think this is a true testament to Fernhill House, the O’Neill Family and their staff.
We would highly recommend Fernhill House Hotel & Gardens to anyone that is thinking of getting married, especially to same sex couples. We were made feel very special on the day and the whole day was just perfect and went off without a glitch. (If anyone would like to chat to us about our day please contact us as we would love to share our experience of Fernhill House Hotel with you)
Thank you to the O’Neill Family, Caroline and the staff for a wonderful day that we will never forget.
Siobhan & Audrey.
