“Warm, friendly hotel on seafront.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2011

My wife and I availed of a groupon offer to stay at the Portmarnock Hotel and golf links for one night. Hotel was easy to find on the main coastal road between Malahide and Howth. Lots of parking spaces. At reception we had a friendly welcome from the staff as we found this the during our whole stay. Our room was warm and comfortable in a quite part of the hotel. We had a garden view but could have had a golf links view if we had wanted. Very good value for the cost. Great time. Had Scones and coffee in the afternoon as we looked out to the seaview in the piano bar. Breakfast was good. Good choice of food. Cereals, fruits, fry up, plenty of everything and friendly helpful staff. Would go back again..........

Room Tip: Delux rooms are a little bigger. You can ask for a seaview, a gardens view or a golf links view, and...

My boyfriend and i booked our stay through Groupon which included a delux room. First impressions of this hotel were not good, the front enterance looks like the back of most hotels with a very fetching view of full rubbish bins, an iffy looking car park and horrible municipal building. On checking in the room we were allocated was in the old part of the building along a dark corridor, Inside it was horrible with an odd musky smell. The furnishings were worn and stained as were the walls and carpets. The wardrobes and cupboards looked like something from a 70's B&B; not 4 star standard! I rang the front desk and eventually spoke to someone who told me that here were no delux rooms left- even though that is what we had booked and paid for, after a few minutes discussion he asked us to come to the front esk where magically a delux room had become available. The new rooms are fine at least they had a decent tv unlike the massive box style one in the original room! There was no cold water in the room with both taps warm, so bring your own bottled water. Breakfast was fine if you don't mind self service and luke warm food. On the whole very very dissapointing. I understand that they are in the process of updating rooms but if the rooms are unfit for guests i would suggest that they stop trying to palm them off on people and stick to using the rooms that are up to scratch. If you have already booked through groupon please on arrival ensure that you are getting the room you have paid for, if however you are thinking of booking for future stay, i wouldn't bother.

Room Tip: Newly refurbished rooms only the rest are awful!

I stayed here the night before my wedding in November. I had a fabulous suite overlooking the golf course. I could not have asked for more. The staff were great from the moment we checked in. The hotel is being renovated at the moment and my family and I stayed in some of the newly renovated rooms. We were very impressed with the size of the family rooms in particular. We ate in the main foyer area for dinner. The food was very good. Only downside was that the service was very slow. But I would definitely stay here again.

My Wife, her Sister and Husband had the pleasure in staying last weekend at this hotel. We booked Groupon whilst her Sister booked direct. Our delux room was large and modern with a bathroom to match. There was also a large walk-in shower. The standard double room was a little smaller, but had been refurbished although had no safe or hair drier.
On arrival we were pleasently greeted and during our stay this continued by all the staff.
As the main dining room was fully booked on our first night we decided to have dinner in the small dining area,we need not have worried as the food was excellent and value for money.
Having booked the main resturant for Saturday, we decided to opt for the 2 courses only,my brother-in-law and I decided for the main and sweet courses, with our Wife's opting for starters and main. When their starters arrived the men also got a mini starter, a pleasent surprise. Over all fantastic value and with Groupon holders we were allowed to check out at 3pm.

Room Tip: I heard of no reports of noisy rooms

As with other reviewers, I went here through Groupon. We were given an excellent room with a splandid view. The room had free internet access and all the conveniences one would expect in this class of hotel. Breakfast was included and was delicious and extensive - it really could not be faulted. The dining facilities in the evening were very good too, and if you want to try somewhere cheaper, there are numerous restaurants within a few minutes' drive. The staff were also very friendly. To be highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the golf course.
