This Dolmen is a must see if you're in the area. The correct term for this megalithic tomb is in fact 'portal tomb', but it has been known as 'The Dolmen' by locals for a long time. Situated about 200 metres from the back of the Ballina train station, this site is well sign posted and easily accessible. There is some development going on behind the dolmen site, but none of that has infringed on the site as of yet.
There is a small gate you must pass through to gain access to the site, and then a slight ascent up 'Primrose Hill' to where the dolmen sits. This is one of few dolmens whose story remains, and there is a plaque to commemorate the tale.
The structure itself remains in good condition. I won't go into detail, as words could not do it justice.
Now go take a look for yourself!!
