“Gaughans revisited”
Reviewed 11 November 2011

Again we had lunch in Gaughans, and again we were not disappointed. The soup with the homemade bread was even more delicious than we remembered from our last visit. My husband couldn't decide if he wanted ham or chicken - the service suggested he had some of each. Brilliant! I had Irish Stew and was quite happy with it, too. The deserts are magnificent, we had a lemon meringue pie - absolutely delicious, and a treat with the good coffee.
We look forward to another visit in an other year.

“Excellent place to reload batteries”
Reviewed 17 September 2009

We come regularly to Ballina and never miss to drop in at Gaughan's. When it's around lunchtime we will enjoy the daily special - followed by a most sinful desert. And to digest all this, we need a freshly brewed coffee! So we spend a delightful hour with the most excellent brown bread (home made!) and good (home made) food. The atmosphere is special: many office workers come for their lunch- break, locals take a break from shopping and many tourists mix in happily. It looks like a pub fallen out of time, the 50's reloaded! Remarkably nothing is shabby. So whenever you come to Ballina, head for the Post office, and when you are nearly there you'll find Gaughan's on your left hand side. Drop in and enjoy at least a soup with brown bread and butter, or a salad. You won't regret it!

“Great old pub, excellent food”
Reviewed 15 May 2008

This is a wonderful place for lunch. It is an old pub and full of the ambience expected, although it is just a wine bar now. The food was excellent, and well worth the money spent. My girlfriend stated that she liked the brown bread, and the owner brought her an entire “cake” of it as a gift. He is a very nice man, who used to work making tobacco pipes. He is also about to retire, so visit here soon as it may not be the same after he’s gone. I would definitely recommend this place.
