Just stumbled on this lovely hotel/B&B while looking the day before for lodging in Dingle. So happy we did. Our room, the Robert Mitchum room, had a beautiful sea view with a multi-windowed seating area. The owner and staff were extremely welcoming, kind and helpful. It was apparent their goal is make their guests comfortable and offer them a quality experience. They brought breakfast to our room so we could gently wake up in our seating area while taking in the view and watching their massive gentle giant wolfhounds enjoy the lawn. The same lawn on which we would later watch the handlers fly the falcons. Beautiful accommodations, beautiful people. We would definitely return to stay here and would have loved to have been able to stay more than our two nights. They say Robert Mitchum lived there for a year. I can see why.

Room tip: Allow time to enjoy the beautiful and welcoming bar!

Beautiful location on Dingle Bay. We received a warm welcome from
Aoife who showed us to our room. The hotel has character and our spacious room had every convenience while retaining its unique old character. The large bathroom had a good over the bath shower with plenty of hot water. The beautiful little bar downstairs was well stocked and inviting and enabled one to chat with fellow guests, if so desired. Aoife ran the bar also and had loads of local knowledge. The lounge had comfortable couches, a roaring stove fire and easy to relax in after a day’s touring. The location is ideal as it’s just a shot walk into Dingle for dinner and then you can it walk off on the return journey. No fighting with traffic or searching for parking. The chú faoil added another dimension and were gentle giants - a great hit with young and old alike. There was a good choice for breakfast and served by the delightful Niamh who was calm and serene even when the conservatory breakfast room was very busy. She still managed to chat and offer tour tips for the area. All the other staff encountered were warm and friendly too. We felt it was good value too. Don’t miss the Blasket Island Centre - Well worth the €4 senior rate. Give it enough time and savour the experience.
Our thanks to all at Milltown House for very enjoyable few days and we’ll be back before too long, hopefully.

Room tip: Relax and enjoy - don’t just overnight. Base yourself here for a few days and tour.

A very pleasant stay, great staff, wonderful amenities, beautiful property. Would go back. We were greeted right away, clear explanations of the check in process. Didn’t try breakfast since we had to leave early. They have an opportunity to learn to fly falcons. We really enjoyed our stay.

I would like to start with the positives. It's a beautiful building with stunning views. The owner appeared to be very friendly as I heard him having great rapport with the guests at breakfast. The beautiful wolfhounds are a treat to watch relaxing outside!

And then we come to the negatives. I'm shocked at the large number of great reviews...I booked a night here having read the great reviews and during a sleepless night in Milltown House, I rechecked trip advisor as I was convinced I booked the wrong B&B.

This beautiful building requires a large injection of cash to renovate it. The rooms are outdated. The bed was creaking relentlessly at any slight movement. The pillows were uncomfortable. We woke up in the middle of the night as the people in the room above us went to bathroom. We could hear everything . I couldn't get back to sleep due to the creaking bed. Worse still was the bathroom. The was mildew all around the tiles in the shower and the shower door was worn with water flowing out onto the floor. There was a nepresso machine in the room...with no pods. The breakfast was basic.

I had stayed in another b&b the night before which is across from this b&b. Despite only €20 difference in the price, the difference was night and day. Thankfully there are some beautiful b&bs in Dingle with excellent standards. Milltown House is dining on past glories. It claims to be 4* and award winning... This was not our experience unfortunately. When checking out, we didn't even have the opportunity to speak to anyone about our issues as we were abruptly asked if we were checking out. When we confirmed that we were, a man took the keys from us without saying a word and walked off! Not even a goodbye.

Dear 'Shiner57',

Thank you very much for staying with us, thank you also for your kind words describing Milltown House as a beautiful building and our views stunning, they certainly are, we are blessed to have one of the most glorious locations in Dingle, and maybe Ireland.

I'm happy to read you enjoyed our beautiful gentle-giant Irish Wolfhounds and that you appreciated my friendly rapport with guests at breakfast. Chatting with guests in our waterfront breakfast-room is a highlight of my day.

It's with with genuine regret that I read that aside from those important positives, our beloved Milltown House wasn't really suited for you, or you for Milltown House. All other guests who stayed on the same night as you loved their stay and gave us glowing reviews on various online sources so it was disappointing to read your negative comments.

I agree with you that Milltown House, like almost all hotels and guesthouses, can do with some refurbishment. But future-guests can rest assured are always in a state of refurbishment at Milltown House, for example we spent €10,000 on interior painting on the week before you stayed. Our building is 120 years old, it is historic and it has character, once we finish one refurbishment project, it's time to begin another, and I can assure anyone reading this that we invest €hundreds of thousands each year into interior and exterior improvements.

I fully respect most of your comments, and we will refocus on the points you mention and will always endeavour to improve and be even better. We are presently working on bathroom renovations. At the same time, I am very con
fident our breakfast is not 'basic' and our beds are not 'creaking', our guests sleep in a new 'King Coil Club Class' Mattresses. With respect, I'm also confident that no member of my team would take a key from a guest who is checking out and not say a word or a goodbye, Milltown house is renowned for the friendliness of its welcome, so something is not right here with your review. I do wish you were not anonymous so we could clarify what happened or that you had asked to speak to me so that I could've tried to put things right, after all I was also present.

The vast majority of guests love their stay at Milltown House and we (our professional and friendly team and our Irish wolfhounds) look forward to providing a warm welcome to hundreds of Irish and international travellers this summer to our beautiful location on Dingle Bay.

Is mise le meas/from me to you with respect
