Thank you to Alison and Leona for their welcome and help during my visit, both exceptional and a credit to Premier Inn. I feel safe during the pandemic staying at Premier Inns when work dictates, as the room was spotless and housekeeping had worked hard to ensure everything was done correctly to meet covid standards.
Sadly there was no WiFi during my stay, I could not make the calls I needed to from my room as no signal either, no 4g, nothing. Virgin broadband are at fault here for their appalling service and very unfair to Premier Inn's business at this difficult time to have left this hotel without this service, really disgraceful of Virgin, not Premier Inn's fault. For that reason I am giving appropriate stars for the excellent customer service I received and for the cleanliness of my room. Zero for Virgin Broadband who ruined my stay.

We booked a night away at this Premier Inn for us as a family of 5. We had to book 2 rooms and were assured before arrival that our rooms would be close and if possible next to each other. We tried to check in early at lunchtime but after waiting a while at reception and no one came out to greet us we gave up, went into Matlock and checked in just after 5. The hotel had no recollection of us emailing before requesting for rooms nearby and although they knew we were a family booking under one reference number no one had bothered to put us together. We were given rooms 111 and 203. We couldn't have been physically any further apart and it was a logistical nightmare sorting out bags, toiletries, clothes, etc. The kids were upset that we were so far apart of well. If someone needed something we couldn't just leave the children alone so we all had to go.

Then room 203 had a problem with the door rattling. Every time someone opened their door along the corridor it sounded like someone was trying to break into our room with the door and handle rattling loudly. This kept happening and made us anxious and unable to sleep at times.

The location was good and parking and we enjoyed the breakfast. You have to book a table for breakfast in advance but they don't really make this clear in advance. A number of people were complaining about this. The restaurant isn't open at night which is a pity. We ordered a takeaway pizza from Bellini Pizzeria and would highly recommend them. Great value and service.

We walked to the Heights of Abraham and enjoyed that. It took about 45 mins walk from the hotel but was a nice easy walk. Matlock town was nice and much closer and you could walk there within just 10 mins.

Matlock train station is about 7 mins walk away but trains aren't often.

Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, General Manager at Premier Inn Matlock hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 11 November 2020

Hello there, thanks for taking the time to share your review. Whilst we're happy to hear you stayed with us and you found the location, parking and breakfast good, we're very sorry your rooms weren't allocated near each other and there was a delay with checking in. We're also sorry the door in room 203 had a fault meaning it would rattle. We can appreciate the overall experience left you feeling let down and this certainly isn't how we want our guest's to feel.

Whilst our team's try their very best to accommodate all request's and get all rooms available at 2pm, this isn't something we can guarantee I'm afraid. Just so you know, we've now shared your feedback with the hotel manager to see what improvement's can be made going forward. We wouldn't want standard's like these to continue so the door will be inspected and this will also be raised with the team to ensure any necessary retraining is arranged.

We hope this doesn't make you think twice about returning so please have confidence this isn't our usual standard and your comments will be picked up. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and we hope to see you again soon.

Ricky

Overnighted for a family occasion. Room was spotless, tv was HD, breakfast was fresh. Car parking on site included and location good, near to town centre and facilities.

Special mention to staff member/duty manager Ellie/Elly who was first class, polite, friendly and in charge. Bravo. See you again and thanks. Would recommend.

The room was acceptable size and well cleaned with little to complain about and the staff only gave me one cause to complain. That being we stayed as the beginning of them opening after the first lock down post CV19. We were clearly told the restaurant was closed. Quite a shock to find to open for breakfast, with people eating, how they got to know to book and not us I just don't know. But growling ended up with us getting seated.

Took a visit to the nearby Heights of Abraham and decided to stay for the night. We generally try to stay in Premier Inns as the service is usually excellent and the staff good. This was no exception. Exceptional clean and the staff were as we expected, friendly and helpful. The room was the usual premier inn room, spacious, good bathroom, clean bright and very comfortable. We did not have dinner as the restaurant was closed but breakfast was excellent with super staff taking the orders. Another excellent Premier Inn
