“Simply excellent”
Reviewed 25 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

10 of us from three generations (and a dog) stayed over a long weekend to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house is spacious and characterful, and the fittings and decoration were faultless. We found everything we needed and appreciated the "essential" supplies provided on arrival. Green space outside the door and a short pleasant stroll into town. Just great

“Spacious house with excellent facilities, made for a great family reunion venue”
Reviewed 14 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We chose Derwent House as the venue for our first ever cousins' reunion, which we were hoping to turn into an annual affair, so it was really important that everything went smoothly. The house was warm and spacious, with lots of space to prepare and enjoy large meals. Good entertainment facilities in the front room, including a Bluetooth stereo with plenty of comfortable seating for everyone to be together and if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet, it was easy to retire to one of the bedrooms, which each felt like mini hotel suites. After a wet winter the surrounding peaks were a bit sodden, but the house had an excellent utilities room where muddy boots could be removed and an even muddier dog could be dried off. Nice park nearby with easy access to shops, would definitely recommend/return.

“Fantastic property that is well equipped and perfectly located”

We booked the house for a group of friends with young children. There were 10 adults and 5 children and we had a fantastic long weekend at Derwent House. It is really well kitted out with everything that we needed and the layout and decor was superb. We are already looking at booking again for next year. There was a children's park within a 100 yards of the property with a Lido so we are looking at spring for our next visit. I could not fault our stay and would highly recommend a visit.

“Very comfortable stay and excellent location for child-friendly facilities”
Reviewed 6 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Visited the house for a week, which my uncle was renting, to stay with him and other members of the family. House very comfortable with attractive period features and plenty of space for big parties, including children. Secured patio at back was useful for our toddler to play in. Owners had thought of everything in terms of finishing touches and fantastic cupboard-ful of toys and games for children and even ducks for the bath! Lovely big kitchen to dine in, with the choice of a dining room for more formal occasions. Helpful facilities for children such as high chairs, travel cots and stair gates. Lovely flowers placed everywhere and wine for our arrival.
Superb location for families with young children as a fantastic play park, with playground, splash pool, little steam train and duck pond and plenty of space to run around in. Our toddler was in his element!
Great location also to see all the tourist sites in the area, of which there are lots.
The only slight downsides were the parking, which is a bit of a gamble. There were, however, alternative parking places very close by which we could use temporarily and then park right outside the house later, when day trippers moved away.
Also, the house was a little dark in some rooms, although this fitted with the character and period of the house (Georgian).
Lastly the owner was very personable and couldn't have been more helpful in assisting with any problems or queries we had.

“Super stay”

Absolutely wonderful stay. Booked in as a surprise for mum's 60th and invited the rest of the family along too. Everything you need for a relaxing break, great location, beautiful setting, lovely owners. Not one bad thing to say on this place!
