This is in a great location, about 5 mins away from centre of Bakewell.

We wanted a picturesque location with easy access to both country-side for day-time walks in the Peak District and pub/restaurants for the evenings. Plus we wanted snow – and we got all of it!

We stayed for 3 nights in-between Christmas and New Year and chose a double-room in the Sleep Lodge rather than a suite in the Bagshaw Hall itself. The Sleep Lodge is great-value-for-money with its own kitchenette area (microwave, kettle, sink and fridge). The room was smart, comfortable, large and modernly furnished in an annexe to Bagshaw Hall itself.

Bagshaw Hall is always going to be the pull, but if you don't actually have the budget to stay in it, at least with the Sleep Lodge you still get the benefit of seeing it throughout your stay. We would definitely consider staying in the Hall for a special occasion.

We made the most of our location and took a bus from the bottom of the hill out to Castleton (just an hour's ride away) and had a few hours walk in the snow and on another day walked part of the Monsal Trail which is only just across the river. Bakewell itself has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants and the quality of the food on offer is very good. Don't forget to try the renowned Bakewell Pudding.

In the summer there are also many other attractions pretty much on the door-step, especially if you have a car, but Bakewell is well-served by buses either passing through or terminating there.

So this is a great place to choose whether you are planning a weekend break, special occasion or much longer stay.

We had two rooms in the Sleep Lodge for a few days after Christmas and it suited us perfectly - a room for us, with our teenage girls just next door. The rooms were very comfortable and well equipped and the little kitchenette was ideal for a quick breakfast etc. For a while we've been looking for reasonably priced accommodation within walking distance of Bakewell town centre and this was perfect - a 5 min walk for a huge choices of places to eat in the evening - and of course, in stunning scenery for great walks.

Imposing stone building situated 5 minutes just above the centre of town: the interior is deceptively modern with all amenities including cooking facilities in room. Some rooms are interconnecting making a large suite and others like the Chatsworth have ample seating and dining areas in one space.

Parking is tight and just about ok for a big suv when the hotel is full, but there is street parking nearby.

Finally, you are just a hop skip and jump from both Haddon Hall and Chatsworth, two of the best houses to visit in Britain as well as endless walks and drives through the beautiful Dales (sorry if this sounds like a tourist ad, but I’m looking out of the hotel window at the moment at all of this!)

Highly recommended.

Room tip: All seem good!

On the plus side, the hotel is conveniently located up the hillside above Bakewell and a few minutes walk from the centre of this charming town and with easy access to a variety of walks. Having visited the hotel's website - which prominently advertises a 'unique historic building in the heart of Bakewell' along with a photo of 'Bagshaw Hall, a listed building of historical interest dating back before 1650' - I had envisioned staying in a historic property. Imagine my surprise on arrival to find that I would be staying in a completely different, modern and sadly not very attractive but functional building called 'Sleep Lodge'. Perhaps in my haste to make a booking I should have spent more time checking the other pages of the website but the hotel could also have made things more clear on their website. Before booking I suggest checking carefully whether the room is in the historic Bagshaw Hall or the rather undistinguished Sleep Lodge. While the room was fine and sufficiently comfortable it wasn't anything to write home about. I opted for continental breakfast served in the room as the restaurant breakfast service started far too late. The in room option was rather uninspiring and not very good value for money. Given that the room has a small kitchen area it may be better to buy your own breakfast from the local grocery store.

I like the plus side –
Not sure about the capability of Beer-tah to work a website!!!
Basgshawhall.com is clearly separated between Bagshaw Hall and the Sleep Lodge, with images of the accommodation in each building and booking details/ prices. In fact to book a room in the Sleep Lodge you have to actually click the “Sleep Lodge” button!!!
The booking is confirmed by us in an email stating the accommodation that has been booked in the Sleep Lodge, which is also reflected in the price paid.
Surely the difference in the price of a room in the Sleep Lodge at £85/night is noticeable against a room in Bagshaw Hall at £140/night.
It seems incredible that a mistake by Beer-tah results in a 3-star rating on Bagshaw Hall, when they didn’t even stay in the hall, and the only reason for making some negative comments on the Sleep Lodge was presumably as a result of their own embarrassment.
Why try to punish those who are not at fault!!

We stayed at Bagshaw Hall for 2 nights in early December. We loved our stay, beautiful hotel and lovely room and we had a great time in Bakewell! The building is so pretty and the communal area very cosy. Thank you!
