I am well aware of the expressed views of this particular Prezzo and my wife and self have enjoyed visits to various branches in England and Wales, where similar remarks have been made, In Chippenham, only last November, my wife and self enjoyed an excellent meal on a Groupon offer. However, on arriving at the Carmarthen Prezzo, we were presented with a menu on a sheet of paper - especially for Groupon deals. This was a first for us, and a complete change of policy within just four months. Moreover, in a very limited menu, ALL the starters were vegetarian and, of the mains, only two dishes were not vegetarian. So we asked if we could have meals we would like, and have enjoyed and pay any difference. Despite one of them being cheaper on the general menu than one on the Groupon menu, I was told "No, the till would not accept it". I find that very 'Tunnel visioned' and, at a time when the likes of Jamie Oliver and Prezzo are having to close outlets in Bath and Bristol, of all places, this is NOT an approach that is going to win them new customers. The staff could not have been more apologetic and the ambiance of the place was everything others have reported it to be. Having said that, what we had was OK, but not good value even at Groupon prices. The management of Prezzo need to reflect carefully, as there is great competition out there :- ASK, Bella Italia, Jamie's and many individual Italian restaurants. Obviously it will come down to the competition present in each town as to which survives but, on the experience we faced in Carmarthen, we shall not be returning, and that is a reflection on the powers that be, not the staff and establishment. To put this report into context, most of my reports are full of praise, where praise has been due. I am not an habitual complainant, far from it. I know how difficult these times are for restaurants and pubs. I am saying it, as it is, as a 'warning across the bow'. It is not a time to offer deals that purport to be a 'Two course meal' from the company's menu - only to offer a cheap alternative when one gets there. I intend this is a warning to all who use Groupon, and to those who have decided on putting out a substitute menu that is totally inflexible, with no opportunity to add cash to a specified limit on the standard menu, which is a nonsense.
