We stayed at Hemswell recently as part of a Wedding Party that was taking place there.
The whole experience was fantastic and very intimate . The rooms were luxurious and what we really liked was the abundance of Antique furniture throughout along with modern features such as flat screen tv and free wifi . The bathrooms were finished to a high standard with lovely toiletries and not the usual mold you see in alot of hotels these days. We enjoyed the hearty breakfast on the day of departure in a magnificent dining room . The only negative was the coffee was a bit weak and the fresh orange was a bit weak . However the service was very good

We stayed at this hotel as it was also the host location of a couple's wedding reception, in April 2010. The general decor and layout is nice, but the small problems just nagged too much for it to be considered a good stay for a £100 room. The room layout was weird in that the bathroom was bigger than the room with the bed: seemed as though nobody had truly thought about room layout which gave the room a cramped feeling. In the evening, the bar didn't accept 'charge to room' as an option to pay for drinks. It also didn't accept 'credit card' as option for payments of less than £10 (so you'd have to buy more than a couple of drinks if you didn't have any cash on you: which is more than likely given the country remoteness of the location). Even when you decided to pay more than £10 for your drinks, you have to walk back to the reception with the barman so that they can slot your card into the payment device (why not have a wireless system? Seems like this place hasn't yet caught up with modern times!) The breakfast was also very rushed and dis- organised. We were amongst the first wave of maybe 40 / 50 guests, but the coffee was tepid and the service poor; we never got asked how we'd like our cooked breakfast, we just got the standard plate like the kitchen wanted to get the whole thing over with and could clean up before the next round of inconvenient 'money spenders' arrived through the door.
