Lovely one night stay for me and my wife, double room was small but comfortable but could hear people walking upstairs most of the night. Perfect breakfast in lovely surroundings. The hotel looks liked a stately Home and the decoration was smashing

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding that was being held there, so we decided to stay the night before and the night of the wedding to save any hassle.

I am glad that we did, this hotel is a quaint old house which has been converted. The old stone has been preserved and the grounds over look the golf course.

When you arrive at the hotel (please note that the satnav directs you to the village car park and you should carry straight up, it is badly sign posted) The staff are very welcoming and accommodating and it is a warm friendly atmosphere.

We stayed in room number 1. Whilst I would definitely stay at the hotel I wouldn't stay in that room again. Whilst it is a nice room, and there are only 4 plug sockets, it is very noisy. It is on the way to the reception, bar and restaurant, but it is situated by the other entrance to the hotel, which makes it quite noisy in the evenings and mornings. The head of the bed is against the wall which has a staircase on the other side, again the comings and going of guests are noticeable. Finally, on the room it is directly below another and I appreciate that it is an old building but again you can hear all the movements.

The staff are extremely knowledgable with regards to the local area and amenities. They care passionately about the hotel and that shows in the service that they provide. They have an extensive knowledge regarding food allegers which you would expect but they also were able to change and make gluten free tempura batter for onion rings and squid. They even had gluten free burger buns!!!!

The main room for the wedding overlooks the golf course and fields across to the river Usk. The staff were well rehearsed and were able to ensure that all the guests were accommodated. The main room of the first floor again was laid out well and the food that was provided for the wedding breakfast again was of a very high standard

Breakfast, which was included in our package was cereal, pastries and yogurts buffet with a wide ranging cooked fresh menu to choose from. Again the staff were eager and very helpful.

The prices in the bar are good too, not expensive despite being a captive audience

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will definitely be revisiting it in the future

I booked a junior suite for my husband and I it was his 48th birthday, I had a stroke last year and wanted to say thank you to him for everything he has done for me since that horrible time, we arrived just after 14.15hrs walked in to an impressive warm reception area and was greeted by the manager , we checked in and went up to our room , we had very kindly been upgraded , Id been asked by the manager if I was ok with climbing stairs as the room was on the top floor, 2 and a bit flights of stairs, no lift , we entered the room via a small entrance hall with a huge bathroom to the right, the room itself was lovely it was room 26 it had 2 velux windows with incredible views of the Black Mountains , there was also a set of french doors which opened if you needed more air(ideal for summer) , the sleigh bed was oversized , there was a tv on the wall a kettle tea cups and everything you needed for making tea coffee and hot chocolate, plenty of sugar and milk.. there were 2 bottles of water too. After unpacking we decided to go for a walk, and walked into Crickhowell a 10 minute walk away( take a short cut through the church) , On our return we decided to watch some tv, the only negative about our stay was that the tv for the size of the room was too small. we had to move the two seater sofa closer to see it! We ate in the hotel restaurant in the evening, it was very quiet with just another table of 6 in there, the tables were laid out nicely but it was quite cold in there, it would have been nice if we could have eaten in the bar area which was just as quiet and warmer! We ordered appetisers if chorizo , olives and artisan bread, which when came were delicious, I ordered steak medium and my husband ordered cod loin, my steak was cooked to perfection , my husbands cod looked lovely, it was very white and he said very tasty, no room for pudding! the staff were very friendly , chatty ( not too much) and seemed very happy in their roles. its nice to see smiling staff . we spoke to the one of the waitresses who did offer us to move into the bar area for a drink as it was warmer in there, but by this time we just wanted to retire. The jacuzzi bath was something else, with plenty of hot water, this is a lovely addition to the room. Woke up from a restful sleep the bed was enormous and very comfortable, the pillows were great too. Went to breakfast there were menus set out ready with a choice from a full welsh breakfast, veggie option, fish and salmon too. you help yourself to tea coffee juice, toast cereal fruit and yoghurt, if you want it, we both went with the full welsh breakfast, bacon, egg, beans, tomato , mushrooms, black pudding and hash brown, again cannot fault anything on the plate very hot and plenty of it. All in all a fab one night/morning away from home for an amazing price , would definitely recommend and stay there again, thanks to all who made our stay enjoyable .

Room Tip: no lift so anyone with a disability would struggle unless you are on ground floor

Loved this hotel. Country house style, clean tidy, well appointed and modern rooms. Lovely atmosphere. Great food both Dinner and Breakfast.

We wanted somewhere good, close to walking territory, that was relaxing and characterful. We got it. Thank-you.

Will be back. And again. And again.

We booked last minute having walked out of a hotel we’d originally booked which was terrible! What a relief to arrive to a friendly welcome at The Old Rectory. We booked a junior suite which was on the very top floor, possibly a mistake not to have asked for a lower floor room with our dog - we were up and down those stairs a lot! The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable, with a lovely view over to the escarpment which we walked up on the Sunday morning! Food was excellent, we ate in the bar as we had our dog with us, but the full menu was available there. Breakfasts were excellent too.
My only complaint is that the function room is on the first floor, and our room was directly above it. We were warned there may be some noise but nothing prepared us for the reality, I think the amplifiers must have been directly below us, so it wasn’t just noise, the whole room was vibrating until well after midnight. I did mention to the receptionist on check out that I don’t think they should sell the rooms directly above the function room to guests who are not attending the function, it’s not really fair and is the reason I only give our stay four starts not five.
The location is perfect for walkers, with some lovely routes right on the doorstep. Aside from Saturday night, we enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay.
