There is not much positive to say about Appart City Lyon Villeurbanne. Having spent a lot of time around the area, I knew where it was and I was fine with the situation even if it was outside of Lyon itself and thus, not in a very central place but a residential area (and not the very prestigious one either, lot of students etc. live around there as it's cheaper).

However, that's not why I would not recommend this for anyone as knowing the area, cities and the metro and other public transports well, the location didn't bother me. I wanted a place to sleep and anything would do.

Why I really would not recommend it was the fact that the rooms didn't seem to meet the standards too well. I was shocked after I had seen my room and went out to and read on the information taped in the elevator that they are on a process of acquiring another star. Why? What's that for? Definitely a star that is not well deserved.

I must say that my room didn't look anything like the photos on this page to begin with. Very simplistic, made me feel like a student room that hadn't been updated in about 20 years at least. The beds weren't very comfy and there was just a blanket, no other cover provided. One small "dining" table, a bureau and a couple of very simple chairs and a lamp, a tv on a small tv table, that's pretty much what was in the room (+ a little "student room kitchenette" at the entrance). Looked very empty, no decoration at all, everything seemed quite used and updated. Bathroom at least was ok, seemed to have been updated at some point, it was pretty spacious but that's pretty much all the good stuff.

Cleaning was poor: on my arrival, there were some spiderwebs and a HUUUUUGE spider in the roof. Being arachnophobic, that was a nightmare. The floor had a blueish carpet and it definitely hadn't been taken too good care at some point.

Didn't try their breakfast, too expensive for that and in France you find lovely cafés and brasseries or pretty much anything to grab a bite all over the place. Not too close to here but who would be spending their time in this part of Villeurbanne anyway, especially on a holiday?

The staff was more worried about what their contracts said than providing much assistance. As I arrived when the reception was closed, I was given the key by a guardian that was around – not the best first impression, made me a bit worried as that wasn't how I had been told it would happen, made me think that there was some problem in the hotel or around the area... The receptionnist would not close the check-in a minute later than what their time tells and thus there is no place to store the bags outside the check-in hours practically. Not necessarily very practical. I wasn't expecting much help or assistance though, as I knew the area very well and knew that what I had booked wasn't exactly a traditional hotel. However, one could have hoped for a warm greeting at least from the part of the staff or a nice attitude towards people? Didn't feel it.

Thankfully I hadn't planned to do much in this room and spent my time elsewhere as the room and the staff weren't great... might have been depressing.

I booked at Appart City Lyon Villerubanne for two weeks with a break in the weekend. The receptionist was extremelly rude and refused to keep my luggage during the weekend break. Don't expect any help form the receptionist.
The rooms are not cleaned unless you pay for that. Additionally you receive a welcoming letter threatening you to charge you if you don't leave your room cleaned before you check out.
Despite non-smoking policy the rooms smelled smoke.
If you arrive on Sunday please contact the hotel ahead otherwise you won't get access to the hotel as the reception is closed.
For internet access please bring your ethernet cable as they lack of them sometimes.
The location is fine just a few blocks from the metro station.

I stayed there for 4 nights during my recent business trip to Lyon. However, I must say that it was not a good choice. The blanket was dirty. The breakfast were not enough as it went almost finished even before the end of fixed breakfast hours. The hotel staff were not freindly enough. When asked for a taxi, the hotel staff kept us waiting for an hour, howerver the taxi didn't turn up. While checking out, the hotel staff demanded more money than what was actually the cost. She corrected only when reminded of previous correspondence regarding the bill.

As a whole it was not a good experience.

Room Tip: bien que ce soit plus long pour obtenir l'ascenseur, il est préférable d'avoir une chambre au dernier etage
