This resort should have it all. It is spacious. Well designed, large rooms, all the amenities one needs. And it has been around for 15+ years. Apart from the Locals that like to stay here, the resort sees many French and Russian holiday seekers as well.
From check in to F&B, it all works quite well, luckily i am assertive, so i never have to wait too long for things i am asking. We had a Princess suite, with a small pool, quite nice set up. Pity that the pool it was not ready yet when we arrived, so we had to wait a bit for the chloride to take effect, but never mind.

A large resort like this requires utmost scrutiny when it comes to maintenance. Here are a few points that catch the eye:

1. the Villas' plaster boards are coming off
2. fencing gets rusted through
3. fillings of pillars and seals missing
4. lighting rusted or not functioning
5. wooden floors worn out after 15 years of service
6. weathered table boards
7. sinking land (electrical cables visible everywhere), need to heighten up.

These are all things that require continuous attention, not just from the maintenance department, but also from management and owner that need to allocated funds and attention to repair and maintain,ad foremost control the works.

as other reviewers said, its a great place, a great spot and a perfect layout, up to us humans to keep it that way.

Room Tip: pool villas are nice....

Dear Wilco V
Thank you for taking the time to write your review reference to your current stay with us - however as your report has a number of inaccuracies within it, which is quite damaging to our reputation, not to mention Brand, in the absence of your email address, I invite you to write to me directly on mt.gm@princessannam.com, when I will be happy to address your comments personally, one by one.
Thank you

Princess D’An Nam is by far the best hotel in and around Phan Thiet and Mui Ne.

Yes, it’s situated 30km outside town, but it’s easy to get to by taxi. Alternatively you can take local bus 6 from Phan Thiet to Ke Ga.

Upon arrival you are greeted in the beautiful lobby with a view of the colorful gardens, a cold towel and a honeyed welcome drink. The contrast to Vietnam outside the walls of Princess D’An Nam is startling: everything is quite, calming and a pleasure to behold.

The Mandarin Villas are beautifully situated, tastefully designed and decorated. The bed is pleasantly soft, the shower enormous and well stocked. The resort is generally extremely beautiful. It does show a little wear here and there, but I’m sure they will bring it back to pristine condition shortly. Currently, it seems like the hotel is focusing its effort on restoring and refitting some of the Princess Villas and securing the beach front, see below.

The main building houses the reception, restaurant, bar, spa and is situated in such a way, that the view of the infinity pool perfectly complements the ocean and adjacent palm trees. Princess D’An Nam’s beach and palm trees have suffered from high tidal surges, but they are hard at work restoring the palm trees to a new location.
We experienced the ocean waves reaching the the very top of the beach: while it took out some of the palm trees, it also created a really dramatic scenary. Frankly, it was really really wonderful to have the waves breaking a few meters from the sun chairs on the pool deck, so don’t let this keep you from selecting this hotel.
The beach stretches from Ke Ga fishing village near he lighthouse in the east and 3-4 kilometers west. There’s an excellent viewpoint about 30 minutes walk along the beach from the hotel, where you can see the sun set over the South China Sea.

The pool area and sun bathing area is idyllic and picturesque. A fresh towel and a cold bottle of water is served within seconds of sitting down.

The breakfast is very good, the fruit tasteful and fresh. The only minor point to take note of is the selection of fresh vegetables, which is somewhat limited. That said there are lots of other tastefull and healthy options.

My girlfriend and I visited for initially 2 days and decided immediately to extend to 4 day’s. Best decision of our holiday during Tet for which the hotel arranged a pool side celebration with dancers and dragons, which was very impressive.

The best thing about Princess D’An Nam is the staff. While a few stand out as particularly kind, well-spoken and proactive, the entire staff is extremely friendly. Everyone from the gardener to the manager will greet you when meeting them on the resort, some even by name. You can tell they like the resort and like working there.
Thanks for a great stay, we hope to come back sometime in the future.

The positives of this place are immediately obvious, spacious and adequately furnished accommodations, mature landscaped gardens and a good beach front pool for lap swimming. The private beachfront itself is however small, tidal, not well presented and subject to sand flies.
Into the second of a five day stay the operational problems centered around the F&B, staffing and management became visible. The resort's restaurant is understaffed considering the scale of the buildings and distances, the service is poor, attention to guests is inadequate with levels of English and understanding of guest expectations very poor for a so called luxury resort.
The food quality and presentation at breakfast and dinner for both Vietnamese and international menus is only adequate at best and dangerous at worst
Anticipating guest expectations is something of a holy grail for hospitality service personnel, so when on our third breakfast my usual cappuccino was anticipated by the waitress I was immediately delighted, only to be let down after 15 mins, by never receiving the coffee and never seeing the waitress at our table again.
We decided on dinner in the restaurant and I selected with the staff a specific beachfront table for two reserved for 7.30pm (which she duly wrote on her hand in biro pen!) only to arrive on time and find it newly occupied by other guests.
Having lived in Vietnam for some time I have never befriended the local breakfasts but preferred instead the classic European style with muesli, fruit, eggs and coffee which had been adequate for the trip. Leaving on day five after the usual breakfast the tummy rumblings began in the car only to end up in HCMC with full blown food poisoning three hours later. I can only assume it was the breakfast eggs and dairy produce.
Having taken the opportunity to visit the Mia Resort in Mui Ne for drinks, lunch and Valentines day dinner during the week, the quality difference in all areas is immediately obvious and well worth the extra $50/nightly.

Room Tip: Small is beautiful.

Dear dtgmax
Apologies for not picking up your review and responding earlier, however my main concern is for your health and I trust you have recovered from the sickness that you say you contracted whilst eating here.

However I doubt that it was from your assumption that it was from food taken at breakfast, as it would not have taken effect so quickly after consumption within three hours, so I suggest it may be from something else that you ate, which would be useful to identify, so that we can follow up with our storage and cooking procedures and training if required.

Additionally if your condition was caused by eating breakfast being the cause, we would expect many guests to suffer the same problems, not just yourself, but thanfully no incidents were reported from other guests on that or any other day.

I have taken note of your other comments, which I take very seriously and I wish to thank you for bringing our shortcomings in service to my attention.

I do trust that you made a speedy recovery.

We stayed for 6 nights at the Princess (7 of us in total), and really enjoyed the location despite the fact that its 50 km from a city (Phan Thiet) and the only hotel / resort in the area. Its a fairly new hotel and well maintained. The beach next to the hotel is pristine especially because it's not used by anyone except the hotel guests and the odd motorcycle driver (!). Unfortunately, the beach right in front of the hotel is gone, most likely the result of recent storms.

The rooms are spacious and well suited for families. We had booked a total of two Princess Villas and a Mandarin suite for the 7 of us and frankly speaking, the Mandarin suites are more than enough for 2-3 persons per room, unless you insist on having your own plunge-pool as part of your room(?).

The major draw back that we experienced was the knowledge level of foreign languages of a number of the otherwise very service oriented employees. There were a number of misunderstood requests during our stay due to the simple fact that when we ordered food and drinks we didn't get what we requested. Improved language training would definitely be a relevant investment and in the meantime, practicing "clarify and confirm"-techniques with guests is highly recommended.

On the negative side was also the internet-access which was shady and slow, especially in one of the three rooms where the wireless coverage was almost non-existant. I know you can't expect super high speed access everywhere you go but coverage can at least be improved.

All in all a resort with the basics almost in place with a potential to become a best in class with a few extra tweaks and more focused investment in employee skills.

Room Tip: Unless you insist on having your own plunge pool get the regular rooms, that's all you need!
