Cottage in the woods is a really lovely quaint hotel set in the middle of Whinlatter Forest. We stayed one night and dined here in the evening and would happily give the tasting menu 5/5, we both enjoyed every course and the setting was idillic too. Service was great throughout the course of our stay, especially the lady accepting guests in the afternoon and running the evening service, unfortunately can't recall her name! The only downside to our experience was the room, although pleasant and clean, it was rather small (bathroom particularly a bit of a squeeze) and therefore found it to be a tad overpriced. However, we would definitely return and recommend to others.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago for one night in the Garden Room and loved it.

The location is gorgeous and the Garden Room has fantastic views, luckily for us the sun was shining during the stay. The room itself was lovely, very spacious, with a huge comfortable bed and a large wet room with shower.

We ate in the restaurant on the evening and had a brilliant meal - we opted for the tasting menu which was great. Highlight of the meal was probably the hogget dish, which was to die for.

We got engaged at the Cottage in the Wood during our stay and it was the perfect setting.

Thanks to Kath and the team for being such wonderful hosts and to help start our engagement celebrations.

We visited The Cottage in the Woods for my birthday. And what a treat it was!

It is located in some beautiful countryside with lots of walking nearby. The hosts and staff were so helpful and friendly - they could not do enough for us. The room was great and the bed was really comfortable.

Breakfast was excellent. it was really well cooked but the highlight was the evening meal. The food was as good as some Michelin starred restaurants that we have eaten in at a fraction of the cost and without any of the stuffiness. The matched wines were very well selected and very enjoyable.

There was even a red squirrel on the veranda on one afternoon to entertain us.

An outstanding meal in a beautiful setting, The service was superb with attentive and caring quality. The food was top class and the wine to match was perfect. I have eaten duck in many places but this was sublime, the confit leg, omg.
If you like fine food of a fine dining style then this is just a must.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Cottage in the Woods and I would recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation in this area! From the minute we arrived we were made to feel so welcome and at home. The views from the conservatory during the three course breakfast meal are breathtaking and the food was delicious! We stayed in Cedar Wood which is one of the cottage rooms and it was just the right size for two of us and the bed was very comfy! The staff are so lovely and accommodating and we would definitely stay here again when we return to the area! Thank you to all the staff at The Cottage in the Wood for such a lovely stay.
