“A beautiful, peaceful and relaxing stay”
Reviewed 11 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We stayed in Studio Helen for a month in February 2016. Giniginamar is a very quiet & peaceful village and the view from the terrace is beautiful,

The flat is fairly basic but had everything we needed (although a washing machine would have been useful, but we knew that was not provided). Fresh bedding & towels are supplied once per week. When we first arrived, we found that the DVD Player was not working. However, we reported this to Helen, the owner, and she arranged for a brand new one to be swiftly supplied.

There are 2 restaurants (one Spanish & one German), plus a beach bar where we enjoyed freshly caught fish.

A car is essential. We had an Avis Budget car (Skoda Fabia) and it was fine. During our month's stay, we drove all over the island visiting Corralejo, Antigua, Betancuria, Costa Calma, Las Playitas, the Eco Museum at Tefia and Puertito de los Molinos (where there is a permanently flowing stream and a duck pond!)

Gran Tarajal is the nearest town - a 10 minute drive away. There are supermarkets there and a few restaurants on the seafront.

There are lots of wonderful beaches. Apart from the wide expanses of dunes at Corralejo, we especially loved the beaches of El Paso and Playa Barca (especially if you want to windsurf)

If you want the "touristy" thing of a camel ride, try the beach outside the Hotel Riu Oliva Beach, Corralejo - much cheaper than going to the Oasis Park if you don't want to do the whole Animal Park. Riding on the camels across the Corralejo dunes makes you really feel as if you're in the Sahara desert! Remember to go before 2p.m though - the Guide Books may say that they continue till 5p.m - they don't!

All in all, our month's stay at Studio Helen was truly wonderful and we really did not want to leave!

Thanks, Janice, for the comprehensive review with lots of great info for other future guests! I'm really glad your stay was enjoyable and am grateful also for the tips for improvements I could make in the apartment. We're overhauling our accommodation and will be renovating and buying extras which our guests tell us they need.

“Escape the rat race”
Reviewed 7 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

The apartment is fairly basic but the view from the balcony is lovely and you can sit in silence listening to the birds and watching the stars come out and the sea darken as night falls. Giniginimar itself is very small and quiet. There are 2 restaurants - one German and one seafront Spanish with fresh fish. We only had the Canarian potatoes as we are vegetarian but the view of the sea and beach is lovely. The German had a bit more choice but you must ask for the menu or they will think you have only gone to dring German beer ( which they are happy for you to do if you wish)
The apartment block is privately owned by individuals and was extremely quiet when we stayed late April. The pool looks nice but is not heated so I was not brave enough to try it. Helens apartment is a studio with 2 single beds, living area, kitchen corner and bathroom. The kitchen area consists of 2 rings and ample utensils. We did cook a few times and it was fine although a microwave would be useful. The balcony has a table and chairs and also sun loungers and umbrella although it was too windy to use it during our stay. There is also a clothes drying rack but that was rusty and there were not enough pegs. Helen has promised to rectify this as she was not aware. The shower supplied ample hot water . It is over the bath so bathing is also an option although we stuck with showering. The bathroom could do with the bath seal renewing as the bath seal is going black and some of the White towels are grey but they were clean and did the job. All in all if you are looking for a really quiet and unspoiled village by the sea to drop out the rat race and you are not looking for a fancy palace this is a good choice at a fair price

Thanks in part to the feedback from guests we have done a lot of renovation. The bath has been resealed, we have new linens and towels, new mattresses, a microwave, a new clothes dryer and pegs and the whole apartment has been deep cleaned.
