What a wonderful day we had touring the D-Day region with Malcolm! He is everything you want in a guide, or person for that matter. He is extremely knowledgeable and informative, able to not just show you the sights, but paint word pictures that place you at the scene. Malcom loves history, and it shows. Above all, he was kind, warm and caring, and forever attentive to any requests. If you are looking for a memorable experience for your bucket list trip, then Malcolm is your man!
I have traveled a fair amount and enjoyed many quality tours. I also have a bachelor's degree in history, and have been fortunate enough to have studied under many gifted professors. That stated, Malcolm is the best guide and history teacher I have ever experienced.
Malcolm has the gift of taking complicated scenarios and breaking them down into understandable, digestible pieces. In a matter of minutes he was able to thoroughly convey the situation in Europe in June of 1944, and the various factors leading up to the invasion. He then spent time sharing stories of individuals participating in D-Day, while standing on the very spots where those heroes stood.
We opted for the picnic lunch, which was thoughtfully prepared by his wife and was quite delicious.
It is difficult to find words to adequately express the gratitude we feel having someone as interesting, personable, and professional as Malcolm accompanying us on our first visit to Normandy. I encourage others to seek out his services, as you will absolutely not be disappointed.
Thank you, Malcolm. We look forward to returning in the future!
We went on a one day tour of the Normandy D-day beaches. This was a fantastic tour. Malcolm is a wonderful guide, full of detailed information that really brings history to life. I so appreciated all the background history that really added to the significance and emotion of all the sights we saw. I highly recommend this tour. I’m really glad my son was able to see and hear all about what happened that day.
My wife and I spend two days with Malcolm. Summary: Hire Malcolm. It was better than excellent. Gave us a complete strategic overview of the whole battle and then put us in positions where individual soldiers has been and described what they saw and did. He was exceptionally well prepared and very knowledgeable. He had us stand on a spot in the hills above Omaha beach and said, "On the morning of June 6, 1944 an eighteen year old German with a machine gun was standing here." He then read us a passage from that soldier's post war autobiography where he explained what he saw, what the Americans were doing and what that soldier did. There were many more individualized accounts. We saw the only part of the German defensive line that to this day flies a German flag along with the American and heard why. We saw not just the American, but the main Germany cemetery. Quite a contrast. Didn't go to a single museum and didn't miss them even a little.
If you are looking for an engrossing, informative, and intimate D-Day tour that you will remember for years to come, look no further.
Working out scheduling and meeting arrangements with Allison and Malcom was a breeze. When the day came, it was everything my partner and I could have wanted in an eight-hour tour. Malcolm's understanding of the scope of the Day of Days (and the days beyond), is astonishing, and he is able to present his knowledge in a way that is wholly digestible and easy to understand. He expertly relays the macro and the micro of the European Theater of War through interweaving facts, statistics, and data, with amazing personal stories of individual persons or groups. This gave my partner and I an appreciation of both the broader global consequences of WWII, as well as the most important side - the war at the human level.
Malcolm's tours are a gem, and I would happily go back to schedule a week long sojourn with Malcolm across Normandy. If you are looking for a fantastic Normandy tour, this is it.
He was even nice enough to stop at a local store so my partner and I could grab more power outlet adapters!
Thanks for the lovely day, Malcolm!
Allied Victory Tours -- an excellent choice for my wife & I during our visit to Normandy Beaches, March 2024. The tour guide, Mike van den Dobbelsteen, a true professional all the way around. We met Mike at a particular Burger King parking lot. He provided us a very comfortable, clean late model Toyota Van. The tour of the D-Day locations consisted of me and my wife -- no other members of the tour. Mike's dedication to preserving the history of the Allied Invasions is evident with his extensive knowledge of each of the sites in the Normandy area. The day was a full day. We were fortunate not to have large groups at any of the sights. The day began at 9:00; with a tasty lunch break, we had on our own and then a bit before 4:00 PM Mike had timed our arrival at the American Cemetery to coincide with the lowering of both American Flags and the playing of Taps. A very moving experience. We returned to our car by 5:00 PM. A day with Mike was the equivalent of a semester's history class. Mike's fee for the tour was well worth it all due to he pulled his years of being a tour guide of Normandy together to give us an excellent experience.
Unfortunately this review has been posted on the wrong site. Whilst we are delighted to hear that you had an excellent day with Allied Victory Tours, we at D-Day Tours of Normandy can take no credit for it.
Best wishes, Malcolm Clough
