Allied Victory Tours -- an excellent choice for my wife & I during our visit to Normandy Beaches, March 2024. The tour guide, Mike van den Dobbelsteen, a true professional all the way around. We met Mike at a particular Burger King parking lot. He provided us a very comfortable, clean late model Toyota Van. The tour of the D-Day locations consisted of me and my wife -- no other members of the tour. Mike's dedication to preserving the history of the Allied Invasions is evident with his extensive knowledge of each of the sites in the Normandy area. The day was a full day. We were fortunate not to have large groups at any of the sights. The day began at 9:00; with a tasty lunch break, we had on our own and then a bit before 4:00 PM Mike had timed our arrival at the American Cemetery to coincide with the lowering of both American Flags and the playing of Taps. A very moving experience. We returned to our car by 5:00 PM. A day with Mike was the equivalent of a semester's history class. Mike's fee for the tour was well worth it all due to he pulled his years of being a tour guide of Normandy together to give us an excellent experience.
Unfortunately this review has been posted on the wrong site. Whilst we are delighted to hear that you had an excellent day with Allied Victory Tours, we at D-Day Tours of Normandy can take no credit for it.
Best wishes, Malcolm Clough
From first contact to after the trip concluded Malcolm and his wife Allison treated us like family. Arriving in Bayeaux and seeing massive tour buses and large vans loading dozens of tourists it was refreshing seeing Malcolm standing alone and escorting us to his SUV.
He prepares a folder for each tour and provides visual aides to reproduce the soldiers first hand accounts. Books and Hollywood do nothing to bring out the TRUTH and personal visceral feelings one encounters as you step in the footsteps of history. See and feel the bombed out bunkers, craters and turn off your phone/camera, place yourself upon those sites and just close your eyes.
Malcolm is not just a guide but a story teller. He is so passionate about this subject. We talked the entire time. He took the time for personal interaction with both my 30 yo and 16 yo son along with my wife and myself. No one felt excluded. Halfway through the tours, his wife Allison provided a nice homemade picnic (optional and recommended) included sandwiches, quiche, fruit, wine and waters in a nice farming area away from the tour groups. Luckily we arrived with very low crowds and never saw more than 10-20 people at any of the sites.
He truly is private and allows you to customize the tour, but follow his recommendations. You won’t be disappointed. If you want to see gift shops, this isn’t the guy for you!
We just got home to the US and I can not stop watching war documentaries. I feel I have a much better understanding and can honestly say, “Hey, I saw that”!
Thank you Malcolm and Allison.
Four of us were picked up by Malcolm at our hotel in Bayeux to begin our 9+ hours tour of the American beaches, cemetery and battlefields of the Normandy area. Malcolm is an expert of the subject, a warm, engaging man who tells the story of the invasion with passion and knowledge. He doesn't just throw out facts, he brings to life the battles, the wins, the loses, the heartbreak and the victories. All of us highly recommend using his company and would definitely doing it all again.
I did a 2-day private tour. Malcolm's passion, knowledge and deep story-telling ability brought the D-Day struggles to life. He can set the strategic context, and then dive down into the individual stories of combatants (from both sides). As he told his stories, pointing to specific spots, it was as if I could see it play out right before my eyes. In addition, we traveled in comfort in his 4X4, and ate wonderful picnics prepared by Alison. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Thank you!
We had a fantastic experience with Malcolm's tour. He and Alison made the booking easy, and he arrived promptly at our hotel for pickup. His vehicle was comfortable and the picnic lunch prepared by Alison was delicious. Malcolm is very knowledgeable about the events of D Day and WWII, but also added a great deal of interesting behind the scenes stories. We did the American beaches, and would love to return sometime to explore more of the area. Would definitely engage him again.
Every aspect of our contact with Malcolm and Alison has been a pleasure. Booking was very simple and very professional. They could not have been more accommodating.
We were met exactly as agreed and Malcolm looked after myself and wife incredibly well. It was an absolute pleasures spending time with him. He has a huge level of knowledge and presents the story of D Day to you in such a way that it is totally engrossing. My wife described listening to Malcolm was like watching a film play out before you.
At all times we found Malcolm to be thoughtful and professional and it made the whole day a wonderful experience. We will be revisiting the area with our friends and another tour with him is top of our list of things to do.
