I have previously stayed at this hotel back in 2015 whilst visiting Cheddar Gorge and it was your typical Premier Inn stay. I had decided to return to Cheddar Gorge in 2022 as a friend had never been & I only did around half of the potential activities there. That being said, I decided to book this hotel again, partly because many of the other hotels were booked due to it falling on a bank holiday weekend, but also because of my prior experience not negatively impacting my decision.
The hotel was reasonably priced, at £80-£90 per room. Upon arrival at the hotel quite late due to traffic, I was able to find at least 5 adequate parking spaces for my car. I feel the front of the hotel, specifically under the patio of the attached Brewers Fayre, could do with more signage for the hotel's reception, as both myself and my guest travelled to the western-most front of the building, instead of the opposite side, where the reception is located.
At the reception it was empty, however a buzzer system was put in place and staff attending to the call within seconds. I was greeted warmly, informed of my guest's prior arrival and directed to my room.
The rooms in this hotel had recently been renovated, as I do recall them being slightly run down back in 2015 (though, not enough to receive negativity). The rooms in this hotel had recently been renovated, as I do recall them being slightly run down back in 2015 (though, not enough to receive negativity). The main changed that I noticed were the air conditioning as standard and a new bathroom layout, with a walk-in shower replacing the typical bath/shower combination. The shower itself was a decent size and had a sliding Perspex door.
The bed in the room was the standard low budget premium bed you find in almost all Premier Inn hotels. It is a very good size for two and a marvellous size for one. It is comfortable too, with the option of 4 pillows as standard.
The hotel is also quite a distance from the road, so even late in the evening you may find it difficult to hear the most throttle heavy biker.
There are only two downsides I found with this hotel:
1) The Wi-Fi is pretty terrible. You would find it difficult to watch a HD Youtube video on there without spending the length of the video again, just to buffer it. My guest was also staying in an adjacent room and we even had delayed social media messages because of it (15 minute delays at certain points). It is possible to buy a more premium Wi-Fi connection, which is adequate enough, however it's generally double the price of its main competitor.
2) The air conditioning is a valued addition to the rooms, especially as the main competitor usually charges a premium for this. It works well in heating/cooling the room, however if it is used overnight on summer days, or those leading up to those warmer months, it can clunk and make disturbing sounds, akin to those of someone trying to break into the room.
Overall, it is a decent hotel to spend a few nights in if you're visiting attractions in the area or an overnight stay on your way to Somerset, Wiltshire or South Wales.More
