This is a wonderful property no more than 20 minutes from Colombo airport, yet feeling a million miles away. A converted historical building, this boutique hotel has very nicely appointed (and spacious) rooms with large modern bathrooms. The hotel clearly specialises in catering to people who want to relax and chill out either after or before a long flight and it is perfect in this regard. Wonderful gardens with many outdoor sofas, peaceful terrace. Quite small pool but in a very tranquil setting amongst the trees.

Very high quality and attentive staff. Food was excellent. Overall hard to find fault with the hotel. We just wish we had stayed there on our first night as well as our last!

What a great way to start a 2 week touring holiday of Sri Lanka. This is the ultimate in boutique hotels. The reception on arrival with a fresh pineapple juice drink. The room was large with a 4 poster bed and mosquito nets and the bathroom was big enough for a 5-aside football team!

My wife and I both had a very welcome neck, back and shoulder massage to ease away the flight tension.
We sat out in the sunshine and took advantage of the complimentary afternoon tea and then had dinner which was really very good. We had a chicken curry and the local speciality, black pork curry with all of the accompaniments. 1 scoop of Cinnamon and caramel and 1 of cardamom ice cream finished off the excellent meal.
Breakfast the following day was another treat.
Nothing about our 1 day stay could be faulted. 5/5 all the way.

We stayed at the The Wallawwa on the day we arrived in Sri Lanka - feeling jetlagged after an overnight flight - and the night before we left. It is an oasis of calm amongst the bustle of the country, ideally located just 15 minutes away from the airport.

The hotel has extensive grounds, with a lovely small swimming pool and a large garden, with seats and equipment for croquet, boules and cricket. There is a library and sitting room with numerous books and games, and a wonderful restaurant that serves Western and Sri Lanka food. The food was some of the best that we ate on our 14-day trip.

Our bedroom was enormous and well-equipped, again with books and games, with a large bed and a bathroom (shower only) that could have happily accommodated a rugby or football team.

But perhaps the most impressive thing about this hotel is the staff, who are all friendly and efficient.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent and quiet.

Hotel looks like a monumental place with an attractive set-up of cosy lounge sets, ganes (such as cricket, chess plays etc) a library etc which all gives the place a very relaxing atmosphere. There is a large outside pool that perfectly blurrs into nature surroundings. Staff is very friendly and the restaurant place has a perfect set-up. The rooms are decorated in a colonian stuke and have a small private garden with chairs. Hotel is located at around 30 min. drive to Negombo, (we went by bycicle, which was a great experience and takes approx. 1,5 hour one-way). Some remarks, rooms are relatively noisy, the bathroom has no bat, toilet has no door and the WIFI has poor connectivity. We had a 'luxury' room, but could not trace the difference with a regular one. Overall, notwithstanding the remarks, we had a great stay and would certainly return.

We (the wife and two children) arrived at lunchtime after an overnight trip and although the driver said it would be 20 minutes from the airport, it was in fact a lot quicker. The location is therefore ideal for travellers all the more so given that the hotel is very secluded and tranquil. Rooms are very spacious ( the bathroom was enormous) and well equipped. There is a decent pool but the highlight is probably the restaurant which serves excellent food ,freshly prepared and something for everyone such that whilst my wife and I had first class local cuisine my daughter had an enormous chicken and avocado burger and my son an Hawaiian pizza !
