Stopped one night heading south. We were allocated a room in the annexe which was nice and quite large. Handy balcony overlooking the Moselle. Plenty of room to store our bike gear. Ate in the restaurant later on and whilst the food was very good quality the restaurant staff started to clear away half way through our meal. We did book late but we were late arriving. Just felt a little impersonal. Breakfast the next day was good with plenty of choice.
Main issue was a complete lack of wifi in the annexe block we were in. It was available everywhere else except our block. Simply not good enough in this day and age.
Would probably look for somewhere else the next time we visit Cochem.

We booked a double room with balcony and view of castle for the night of 20th February 2017 on a half board basis. The room was comfortable but the bath room was on the small side with shower only. Wi-fi is not available in bedrooms, access is only in 2 public areas. The reception staff were very professional and helpful.
However, in the restaurant for dinner we asked the Waiter for tap water and his reply was 'it is not very good, would you like bottled' We were surprised with this response having drunk tap water in the bedroom. A few minutes later the the Duty Manager Mr David [-] came to our table and stated 'No hotels in Germany offer tap water only bottled, and if you insist on tap water we will CHARGE you. Rather than be 'blackmailed' we decided to not have any water. Over the last 10 years we've travelled to Germany 2-3 times per year staying at many Hotels and none have refused to serve tap water. No doubt German Hoteliers will be shocked by the mis-leading statement of Mr D [-].
The main dinner course was a veal dish with vegetables and my Wife's vegetables were steeped in excessive water and some veal slices tough, when brought to attention of Waiter no alternative was offered.

Dear John,

First of all, we want to thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are grateful for any feedback - this is the only way helping us to further improve.

It is nice to hear that you felt well received and comfortable in your room. Regarding the Wi-fi accessibility, unfortunately you came a few days to early to our house. This weekend, our IT-specialist completed work so that you now have access not only in the public areas but also in the rooms of the main building.

Concerning your remark to our water policy, we can comprehend your surprise but in Germany there simply are other habits then in Great Britain, Ireland, France or other European countries when it comes serving tab water in restaurants. Here, it is no common habit but the individual choice of each single hotel or restaurant. Since we offer high quality bottled water from sparkling to medium and also non-sparkling at reasonable prices, we decided to not serve tab water in addition.

In the end, we want to apologize for the non-reaction to your complaint about your wife’s main course. This simply must not happen and we already spoke to our service team how to react properly to keep the guest satisfied.

Nice family hotel for a couple of days. Clean rooms, good buffet breakfast, small but nice pool.

Good location, just a nice walk away from the center of Cochem.

An excellent hotel for two or three days or weekend. Especially if the weather is warm, this place is like heaven.

The staff is friendly at this 4 star German hotel (note Americans - 4 star in Europe is not quite the same as in the U.S.). Your walk to the center of Cochem is about 20 minutes. Its a pretty walk so if you like the exercise, this will be no problem. The rooms are large and the bathrooms comfortable (only showers in our rooms, not baths). The beds were fine and the patios in our rooms were very large. The reason for my 3 rating is the lack of wifi in the rooms. They claim to have wifi in the restaurant and lobby but we never we able to access it with any consistency. Also, breakfast doesn't open until 8am so there's no coffee available for early risers (none in the room). The rooms while large are a bit dated in decor but very clean.

Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you for your rating and your comment. It is nice to hear that you liked our house (especially your room with its large balcony and the beautiful view to our newly designed gardens) and the area we are situated in. For your next stay please let us know that you are early birds, so that we at least can provide coffee before we start with our breakfast buffet at 8 a.m.- although it is worth waiting for with all the hot and cold dishes, the many little extras and the sparkling Riesling wine served for breakfast.

Regarding your remark on the WiFi accessibility, unfortunately our contractor provides us with just a 2 mbit line, so that at the moment WiFi is just available in the public areas such as lobby, bar, restaurant, and sun lounge. We know about the problem that the connection is not quick and stable enough especially when many people are using it at the same time. We are working on that, so that we will be able to extend it on a majority of the rooms in the main building at least.
