First point: check the location of hotel to see whether it suits you. We booked without fully realising its distance from Meersburg (interesting) and Markdorf (not interesting). Bermatingen is a main road with no restaurants, so there's nowhere to walk for a meal. (No restaurant in hotel).
The location is a residential street opposite a car mechanics. When we arrived on a Friday, there was noise and traffic from there, but over the weekend it was quiet. From the back there are lovely views over a huge vineyard.
Our very clean room with a balcony was a basic budget type, had a fridge and tv. No air conditioning but we asked for a fan. Internet was very good.
Breakfast was a huge varied spread with some interesting touches ; tomato/mozzarella, smoothies, herring salads in addition to the usual fruit, cheeses and hams.
Well run place to be used as a base for days out, rather than a 'destination' in its own right.
