Hotel Villa Seeschau am Bodensee
Reviewed 6 July 2017

The hotel is beautiful and as advertised. BUT there are 2 issues to beware of both due to it being on the top of a hill over the town.

1. There is no protection from hot sun. The balconies are nice, but there is no awning and the hotel faces south, so sun beats down on the balcony morning till night making it unusable when it is hot. We walked around the neighborhood and saw that every other hotel and every house and apartment have some kind of awning over their balconies, giving them shade from the blistering sun. Also, because of the relentless sun, the room continues to heat up all day. The staff's recommendation is to close the blinds of your room from 9:00am to 8:00 p.m.---which results in no view of the town and no moving air. It is stiflingly hot. Despite charging over 200 euros a night, they refuse to buy a 40 euro fan for the room as other hotels that charge much less do. Staff claims it was an unusual hot spell, but records show that Germany has these hot spells almost every year now, probably because of Global Warming.
2. Being on the top of the hill means you have a long walk down to the street along the lake which is where everyone wants to go. It is about 25 minutes, despite the staff telling you it is 5 minutes. The 5 minutes gets you down to the highest level of the town, but there are a couple more levels down to get to the lake. The challenge once you are down at the lake is to get back up in the blistering heat--parts of the hill are very steep--at about a 30 degree angle (or so it seemed).
In summary, it is a great hotel if the weather is cool and you are willing and able to make long, difficult walks down and especially back up.

White decorating almost everything. Great shower!!! General attitude reception, good breakfast. Poor wifi reception. Overall, won't miss too much! Location not bad and there are lots of small and nice restaurants at the Altstadt are worth to try.

This hotel is good, period. But. They want the exquisite status without the investments for it. 180€ is a fair price for a nice room, nice but basic bathroom, fresh breakfast included. But you don't start charging your residents for an open air parking with a sign that you deny any responsability for damage. You cannot expect high standard guests if you only accept cash, unles one is aiming to attract the All Capones of this world. And be honest, they expect more luxury...

We stayed here one night in October. The room was very comfortable with a nice view overlooking vineyard and lake. The hotel had a wine bar accessible after hours. The dining room for breakfast was exquisite. Prettiest setting we had during our trip!
