We needed to move the date of arrival which the hotel policy only allows if you pay a one night penalty. After some negotiations through my wife who speaks fluent German the hotel finally conceded to let us stay without penalty. However, on account of the change in dates, we got a substandard attic room even though we had reserved a standard double room. This was annoying because outside at the entrance of the hotel there was a sign that there were rooms available. We cannot prove it but it almost looked as if we were being penalized anyhow for changing our reservation. The receptionist was pleasant and courteous, the only thing was that when one of the bosses had to discuss lengthy administrative issues with her we and other guests were kept waiting. Maybe these administrative issues were more important than making the guests welcome.
Parking is at a premium but the receptionist offered parking in the hotel inside court for a nominal fee (5.50 euro per night). The only drawback is that one has to leave the car key at the reception as cars are parked one behind each other. The other drawback is that the inside court is where the garbage from the restaurant is deposited - not a pleasant smell. Nevertheless I was glad to have found parking and appreciated the fact that at checkout time the hotel staff had move my car conveniently in front of the hotel.
The location of the hotel was superb with the lake promenade in the back and the town in front. Another pro was that the breakfast buffet was plentiful, including good quality cheeses. The restaurant on the other hand was disappointing. The food was not very well presented and none of the four of us finished our dinners as the quality was low. This was not the fault of the waiters who were very courteous.
Our friends and us very much enjoyed our stay in Meersburg, a beautiful city with many attractions at walking distance (a well-preserved beautiful downtown, the old Burg, the new Schloss, the Zepellin museum, etc.). We'll probably come back but will choose another hotel next time.

Room Tip: Do not accept room 312, it is substandard.

We got two single rooms here with no view - which is fine - because you're going to want to be strolling the lake front boardwalk and enjoying one of the many restaurants mere steps from the hotel while the sun is up. Staff is pretty nice and breakfast was wonderful. In retrospect, I wouldn't have used Meersburg as just an overnight on my way to Munich, I would have stayed in Meersburg for a few days.

Great location, great staff, great owners, where do I stop. It has been seven years since our last visit and we were not disappointed. We use Meersburg as a jumping off point into Switzerland. The castle, one of the best, the lake front and restaurant, Restful.

Room Tip: Get a tower room

We love Meersburg and the Hotel Zum Schiff. We stayed there 20 years ago and again in December. Some of the hotel has been updated. We stayed here a few nights while on our trip to Meersburg. The first couple of nights we upgraded to a renovated room with a view of the lake. This room was awesome! Then we stayed again towards the end of our trip but in a smaller room. It was very nice though. The staff were all so nice and helpful...the folks at the front desk, cleaning staff and the gal running the breakfast buffet. We love the breakfast!! We love everything about the hotel but is a little old in areas such as the hall carpet. But overall we love this place!! Also it is so easy from the hotel to take advantage of all area activities. The ferry to Konstanz is maybe a block away or so. And Meersburg itself is wonderful.

As noted in most of the reviews, the location of the hotel is sweet. Great view of the lake and surroundings area. Enjoyed visiting the nearby castle as well. The hotel was ok, nothing particularly bad or good for that matter. The pricing was decent and the breakfast was above average. The biggest plus is the proximity to activities in Meersburg ans all the lakeside restaurants.
