We just happened across this restaurant attached to Schmelz Gasthof as we were driving passed on the main road and it seemed like a quiet spot for lunch.
On descending the hill, we found the place was packed with hikers (and most seemed well into their 60s) all getting fortified for their afternoon trek.
There is no English menu but with a bit of pointing and reading a bit of the specials board we were both happy to stick to "Today's Specials" and at less than 10 Euros we were well pleased - and well fed. Like all the others we ate on the large shady veranda and despite the number of guests, service was relatively prompt. Importantly for travellers, there were good clean toilets.
I wouldn't go out of my way, but if in the vicinity, give it a try.
