“The best place to stay in La Ventana/El Sargento”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

We just returned from a one week stay with 15 members (!) of our family, and our experience here couldn't have been better. The accomodations are excellent - the bungalows/casitas are private and excellent, and the one adjoining the living room and kitchen is perfect for a large family gathering place. The beachfront rooms are also terrific. Modern, comfortable, clean, and very attractive. The grounds are beautiful with cacti, palms and flowering plants. The food is fresh, local and extremely good. Breakfast and lunch are included. Dinners are a bit more expensive than in the many other good small restaurants in town, but worth it, and the dining palapa is lovely and the staff very friendly. With advance notice, they well accomodated a vegetarian and two who were gluten-intolerant. The beach is perfect for kiting, and Morton the Danish instructor is first class and extremely nice. Tony, the manager, is great and understands the importance of excellent service. Just wish it would open in the non-wind season/summer too - great fishing and diving as well as the beautiful beach and area are enough reason to go. The sports equipment (added daily cost) - kites, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, wet suits, masks and snorkels, etc - are very good quality. No television is added bonus.

Room Tip: All have ocean views. if you want to be steps from the water and closest to the dining palapa, choos...

Ventana Bay Resort is such a find that let's be selfish about this. I mean, I don't want you to tell too many people about VBR. Let's not mention that this resort is the most beautiful and peaceful resort in the area. The private bungalows are well designed with a large shower area, mini fridge, purified water and a quaint fireplace. The roofs are dome shaped so it's very lovely to go to bed and wake in the morning with that brick view. Most importantly, there is ample space between the bungalows so you don't feel like your neighbors are on top of you like the other resorts in town.

And keep your lips sealed about the food-- honestly, it's the best in the area. Fresh romaine salads (all you'll find in town is shredded iceberg lettuce-- bleh!) and seasonal fruit for lunch and breakfast. The four course dinners are scrumptious.

Best of all, let me whisper this one--the wind here is superb! The resort's beach is private so you won't be kiting or sailing in a crowd. Only time that will happen is when the downwinders come through. When the wind is down, there are plenty of toys to play with-- kayaks, SUP, snorkels and bikes.

So, seriously, go ahead and plan a stay there, fall in love with the place and tell maybe a friend or two about it afterwards. But no more than that. We want to go back soon and if everyone knew about VBR, we won't be able to get a reservation!

In all honesty, I have nothing negative to say about this quaint and modest resort. Not only do you have access to all amenities (including a great array of kite boarding equipment), but you also have the chance to mingle with the local staff and practice your Spanish. The food is spectacular...fresh and local recipes. Do not miss out on the gastronomical 5 course meals on their open oceanfront dining room.
I'm only a beginner kite boarder, but the owner, Mr. Bill, was more than accommodating with respect to giving you tips and joining you in down winders!!!
But the very best were my recuperative sleeps...the only noise at night was the wind blowing through the palm trees and the gentle surf.... ecstasy.

My wife and I have just returned from another great trip to Baja. La Ventana is a wonderful place and our stay at Ventana Bay Resort couldn't have been better. We've stayed there about 5 times over that last few years and we couldn't and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The accommodations are clean, nice, and very comfortable. The food is outstanding and definitely the best in the entire area (and we've eaten everywhere there). The sandy beach is beautiful and can't be beat.

The resort is located just north of town, out of the beach congestion zone, and has great kiting and sailing conditions. Available on site is windsurfing equipment, kayaks, and mountain bikes for guest use.

The hosts are great and we always meet wonderful people there. We will be back and hopefully soon!

I LOVE Eco-Resorts. True eco-resorts. This place is perfect it you want it all. Kite-boarding, lazy days at the beach, kayaking in the calm warm waters, snorkeling, mountain biking. My husband spear fishes while I hang out in the hammock reading with my daughter. No TV's, no noise. Blissful peace & warmth. I have led a Yoga Retreat here in 2009 & everyone loved it.

The food is AMAZING at night real homemade food cooked by locals. My husband caught a Wahoo spearfishing & they grilled it for the whole place!

If you need some serious down time, or are super active in sports, this IS IT, the place to go. We won't stay anywhere else, & we come every year.

Quiet & romantic at night, the stillness & beauty of the water & the moon and the STARS are incredible.

We are thinking about doing another Retreat here in October 2011 to swim with the Whale Sharks!
