I spent a week in the amazing Tignes skiing domain. Although the kids had a great time at the Club Med I was quite surprised with few things :

1) We have been given rooms just above the disco and the noise was just not acceptable until midnight. I asked pretty strongly for a room change and I was lucky to be one of the first comers. Do avoid room 1117 & 1119 and around.

2) The team was not as professional as usual for a 4 trident. I was at the 2 Alpes last year (3 tridents) and the team was something else.

3) I warmly recommend the team in charge of the restaurant and notably all those guys coming from North Africa. They are just great, warm and always here for you and your kids.

4) The food was good but the restaurant pretty dark with few Windows. It would have been great to have a terraces

As a couple we enjoyed a week at Club Med Tignes in early April. Anyone familiar with Club Med will know that the offering is a value package that includes accommodation, six days of ski instruction, morning and afternoon tuition from the French ESF school, full board food and drink, and ski pass. This was our fifth Club Med holiday. In comparison with others it had one of the best ski-in, ski-out locations and better than average in most respects, though our favourite remains Cervinia. Th restaurant at the Tignes hotel was significantly better than that at the nearby ClubMed ValD'isere hotel.

Strangely it was the first Club Med holiday in which the chef de village did not make himself known to us, but the other GO's more than made up for that as there was nothing they would not do to help us have a great stay. As an example, one of our suitcases was delayed 48 hours, and they cheefully provided an 'emergency pack' of toiletries, teeshirts etc. from the boutique at no extra cost, and we were all delighted when the missing luggage arrived and was delivered to our room. All the staff unfailingly smiled and said 'bonjour' whenever they saw us.

The ski-ing at Tignes was excellent and suited our abilities (Level 2) well, with a great instructor (Beatrice) allocated to our group. We hired our skis in advance from Skiset Val Claret, no more than 50 m from the hotel entrance.

It's worth knowing that Tignes comprises several villages, and that ClubMed is located in the one called Val Claret, in which a very small selection of shops, including the chemist and Sherpa supermarket, are no more than five minutes walk from the hotel.

Regarding the hotel amenities, anyone expecting any ClubMed to be an upmarket resort will be disappointed as the accommodation, in our experience, is always basic. Our room in the adjacent Val Claret block was idiosyncratic, with annoyingly minimal lighting (bring your own reading light) no seating (use the bed) and no room on either side of the bed, (leap into position) but it did provide ensuite bathroom with bath and shower, separate toilet, kettle and coffee/tea, free safe, hair dryer and mountain views. The bed, which looked like two adjoining single beds was extremely comfortable. There was some early morning noise as the hotel seemed to sort its recycling out at 5am. Not great.

ClubMed Tignes welcomes children, so if you don't have any, you may wish to give a thought to a ClubMed that aims at adults. They seemed to be everywhere!

This was the first ClubMed holiday in which we were advised that free wi-fi was available in all rooms, but we didn't use it so can't comment.

We both experienced some stomach upsets during the holiday and in the subsequent week, but that could happen anywhere.

All in all, a good stay and we'll be looking for another ClubMed ski holiday in 2017.

We had a good week here. The strength is in the G.O. Team who were very enthusiastic and attentive. The Club Med hotel was spotlessly clean. The lessons operated by ESF were excellent. The food was good, but not as good as we have had at other Club Med resorts. The hotel is in need of a refurb. Pool and spa were great. We had rooms away from the disco, but it was very noisy for those in rooms above it and they were complaining.

We have just returned from a 7-day family ski holiday at Club Med Tigne.

We have stayed at Club Med previously and this was by far the worst experience.

Firstly, there is no night club so from 10pm until late booming techno music is played in the main lounge. We were on the second floor and our windows vibrated as it was so loud - avoid this Club Med if you want to sleep before your skiing in the morning.

Secondly, we experienced a sharpe decline in the service and number of staff around on a Wednesday. When I enquired the GO's said this was the day the Manager and Restaurant Manager had off - coincidence ?

Thirdly, the reception staff are very unhelpful and rude - I got the impression that they are there is party and the guests are an inconvenience. When I asked to speak to the Manager they always said he was out on PR exercises and could not be contacted? It was a running joke amongst the staff and GO's that the Chef de Village did not exist!

On the positives, some of the restaurant staff were very attentive, the kids club staff are very caring, and the ski school is really well run. Unfortunately, they are let down by a large number of lazy GO's with an attitude.

There are better Club Meds to stay at and I get the impression that the GO's would prefer the guests to do so as having to work prevents them from partying .
