I have no doubt that we are not the only travellers who wish to break a long car journey. Being barely 5 minutes off the A10/E5 places this hotel in an ideal position. A grand entrance and a drive along a tree-lined way, sweeps you completely away from the traffic of Acquitaine. Clearings amonst the trees provide parking areas and for Tesla owners, charging points though sadly none available for other models of electric car yet. At the top of the drive is set this delightful hotel. The decor is typical of a country house. The rooms comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast - quite one of the best we have had in France, was taken in a dining room overlooking 2 small lakes, within the hotel grounds. Breakfast orders taken on arrival, were served in individual wire baskets and placed on side tables by one's own dining table. A truly delightful stay. We have already made a reservation for a return trip

Room tip: Eat somewhere else in the evening.

The management team are wonderfully warm and welcoming, making both us and our pet cat feel at home. The rooms are large and well-appointed with the best ones overlooking the fabulous park.

Dinner in the restaurant is an occasion and is popular with locals and hotel guests so must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. The chefs clearly have a passion for the ingredients, and these are fresh, reflecting availability on the day and local produce more generally.

Saintes is a short walk away and is a beautiful town with lots to do and see. The hotel assisted with booking restaurants in town and making sure we had the best table and superb service.

We were more than a little sad to have come to our last day, but will return because of the fabulous experience we had the pleasure to enjoy at St George's.

Room tip: Book early for the restaurant, its worth it!

We have stayed in this charming hotel twice a year for the past ten years on our annual drive to and from the south of France.
When we arrived at the hotel reception this year we asked for a reservation for dinner as normal but we were disappointed to to be told that all the tables in the restaurant were reserved and that our only option was to drive into Saintes to find somewhere to eat.
We were then told that if we wanted breakfast the following morning we would have to confirm our choice of coffee or tea bag in advance.
We realise that we are living through a pandemic and things are not back to normal as yet but found the hotels attitude regarding meals a little bizarre on this occasion.
Never the less we rate this hotel highly and will be staying their again.

Room tip: The hotel does not have a lift so specify a ground floor room if you cannot manage walking up stairs. The hotel also has a separate annex.

Most rooms have not been renovated since what seems like the 80s. They are not particularly clean. The overall decor is very unwelcoming and in very bad taste which even a motel would beat. We had an incident this evening as my family (10+ of us were staying here) were having dinner and ordered a "piece" of cheese. Instead, we got several plates of cheese and were charged 150 euros for the cheese. The lovely waitress Swann misunderstood and admitted to her mistake (it happens). When contesting the bill, Florence the rude receptionist got involved and said that if we were not going to pay, it was Swann's fault and she would have to pay from her salary. First of all, what was her right to make such a decision? Secondly, who even says anything like this? We settled the bill needless to say and spent the remainder of the evening boosting Swann's morale and telling her she had a bright future ahead of her as soon as she would leave this joke of a property. For 160 euros per night, what you get is terrible.

Excellent stop between Portugal/Spain and the Netherlands. In a park, an old farm has been transformed into a fine hotel. Rooms are not large but very comfortable. Restaurant is excellent. Hotel is welcoming dogs, that was for us a big plus.
