If in Laval must go to this restaurant. We went with our 3 children (10& under)and unanimously agreed the best food we’d had this trip. Fish delicious and kids filet mignon/ chicken skewers/fish skewers were a delight. The desserts also amazing- don’t miss the tarte au citron with meringue topping!

Its perfectly french from the excellent food to the wine selection and the staff. Look at the walls and it could be quirky french or a bit of welsh homeliness. Asking the waitress for more info and there is indeed Welsh in the restaurant owners family history. The desserts were good too. Cherries soaked in whisky.... Calva flavoured cream.... and go for the house red. Perfect.

A wet Tuesday evening and Laval seemed ever so quiet. Me and two friends searched the steep medieval street for somewhere to eat. The added challenge that one of our trio is a VEGETARIAN. In France, even in Paris, this is a mighty tough issue. La Braise specialise in steak. So the outlook was even bleaker. The chef and the waitress, you could tell, wanted to try and give the VEGGIE a nice meal. We couldn't speak French and they couldn't speak English but you could see it in their eyes that they relished the challenge. He got a grilled a mushroom with some onions and fries, it was definitely 'non carne'. For us, the steaks were fantastic as were the quirky decorations - see photo - and tucked away in the back room we had the surprise of finding a thriving scene of French families, friends and couples all dining out. We had a window seat in the barren front room. Maybe Laval on a Tuesday night isn't that quiet after all, you just have to search it out.

Had a lovely lunch here. The Fois Gras de Canard "Maison" and Lemon Tarte tasted like they was made for me while I was waiting. The Grille I had was Brochette "La Braise" (Boeuf, Porc, Veau, Côtes d'Agneau, Lard fumé). Perfectly cooked (not that easy given the assortment if "Viandes"). As a lone... read more

As a lone Australian it can sometimes be difficult but the staff were wonderful. Sitting outside in the Shade with a bottle of Pinot Noir made for a great day in Laval. (Going back for dinner soonest) Recommend it to anyone.
