Stayed on the Mont after reading many reviews suggesting a one night stay. Selected the Auberge Saint-Pierre after reviewing several available choices considering i was looking for a Sunday night stay in August and needed a room for 2 adults and 2 kids. The quad room at the St. Pierre was perfect; especially after a long drive from Paris, with a stop in Normandy at the U.S. Memorial. The family room has two single beds together on the first level, a small stair/ladder to an converted actic with two separate single beds for the kids. They loved their own space with a small window overlooking the mainland and water. The room was recently renovated with comfortable beds, clean/new bathroom, and even an LCD on each level. Our view was towards the mainland, over the water, although I understand there's a room just like this one overlooking the Abbey. Breakfast was good, fresh and ready to go without any wait. Not the cheapest but expected for the location. Service at front desk was great, you get walked to your room and they store your bags the next morning while you make your way up to the Abbey. Speaking of bags, pack VERY light, because you have to park in an open lot on the mainland, walk to a shuttle, walk to the hotel, then up stairs to your room. The lot looked secure, with a separate section for hotel guests, and our large bags were fine left in the car.

As everyone that stays writes, its worth every penny to stay on the Mont. You can get there in the afternoon after the tour busses leave, get to walk around with no crowds at night and then you go up to the Abbey before the crowds arrive. As we left the Mont around noon there was a line from the top all the way out to before you enter the gates. I was happy to be a hero when my family realized how much we enjoyed the hotel, walking around with no crowds, and leaving just as it got overcrowded.

Room Tip: Ask to face the Abbey.

We stayed in one of the "logis" rooms i.e. a room in a separate building, up several flights of steps, looking out over the bay and very quiet (in contrast to what others have said about road-side rooms in the main building). The room was small (just about enough space to walk around the beds) but had a good bathroom and comfy beds. Best of all, we had a large balcony (which the hotel told us it allocates to people on a surprise basis - you can't book it) which was a fabulous piece of luck. We thought Euros 15 a bit much for breakfast so paid Euros 10 at the Vieille Auberge where we'd had dinner.

Being on the rock for the night--then waking up early the next morning to go to the Abbaye--is the way to go. Because being on the Mont is so amazing the hotel didn't have to do much to complete our positive experience. This hotel suffices; comfortable beds, clean amenities.

Room Tip: When you arrive by car you'll be directed to P3 which is a parking lot designated for hotel gues...

Mont St-Michel was astounding but we had very low expectations of the hotel, however, we were very impressed. The staff were polite and helpful, the room was well appointed (although small) with lots of character and the location is excellent. We also enjoyed our evening meal in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Walk on the ramparts to access the abbey to avoid the crowds and awful shops on the Grande Rue

Auberge Saint-Pierre is a lovely quaint hotel in the heart of Le Mont St Michel. It was very easy to find being right on the main road and not far from the entrance to the citadel. The rooms are spotless, the bathrooms new and clean. The staff friendly and helpful.
The restaurant was OK, but it did stay open later than the others on the Mont. It was so nice staying on the Mont as after 8/9pm the day trippers left and the streets were quiet again. During the day it is very busy and crowded. Everything about the hotel was perfect, except that we had a room overlooking the main cobbled road and at 5:30 in the morning two very noisy forklifts rattled up and down the road bringing supplies and taking away the trash. It lasted for about two hours and was quite loud and intrusive. So, my advice is to make sure you get a room on the back side of the hotel away from the road if you are not an early riser.

Room Tip: get a room away from the street
