Okay this hotel is cheap 100 Euros a night for a full size bed. After reading a bunch of reviews we decided to stay on the island and they had the last room left that we can book on Expedia. The email confirmation asked us to contact the hotel to get a parking code, and to pick up room keys from another hotel. We called while we were in Paris got the parking code. They didn't give us clear instructions to get there. Not realizing that there's strictly NO Parking on the island. The parking code is for multiple parking lots next to the Shuttle Bus station. (They have a reserved lot for hotel guests on the island.) And then you haul your luggage onto the shuttle bus with a million other day tourists. The shuttle dumps you about 1/4 mile from the city entrance. You are pulling luggage on cobble stone streets trying find this other hotel you check-in and get your room key. ---If I knew we have to take shuttle I would never have stayed on the island. There are a couple of hotels along the shuttle bus route before the island which would be more convenient. When we finally got to the hotel we paid for. (The bldg entrance is next to the back door of a hotel kitchen.) You can hear every single thing in the building...pipes, toilet flushing. The picture of the restaurant with Bay view is NOWHERE to be found. Basically, it's a building through a back alley with 6 rooms. No lobby, no front door, no hair-dryer! The worst thing is that there's no AC. If you want air you open the windows. Being close to water they have blood-sucking mosquitoes, gnats, flies. We killed two mosq and there were blood splattered on the wall! Imagine that on 80s day what do you do? No air whatsoever. We chose to stay on the island because other reviews said you get to enjoy the island after dark and early morning. It was still very crowded after 10pm. Amenities on the island are very limited as well. The only saving grace was that we were at the Abbey 9am when it opened and enjoyed a peaceful time. Yes, the tides are cool but for all the hassle, poor quality accommodation and rude establishments (I don't blame them cuz they are overrun by tourists i.e. shoulder to shoulder traffic everywhere), I would skip this Abbey. Have seen better monasteries elsewhere.
