We had travelled down from Lyon the previous day, and on our second evening in Avignon, having been a little disappointed by Christian Etienne, the previous night, were very pleasantly surprised at the Prieure. Staff here were very welcoming attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant us situated in a very picturesque area of Villeneuve-les-Avignon. I started with an excellent dry Martini (something most of the restaurants we have been to so far in this part of France have been unable to do!) The sommelier was particularly obliging. On his recommendation we enjoyed an excellent bottle of single vineyard Condrieu by Cuilleron. We ordered a la carte because there were so many favourite things we wanted to try. My crab cannelloni was superb, followed by delicious turbot, with a deep turbot reduction, and the absolutely divine sweetbreads with asparagus. My wife's red mullet, John Dory and Pigeon were all excellent. Wife's desert of of tangerine ravioli was fresh and delicious, my chocolate with praline and raspberry equally good. This was the best meal we have had between Lyon and Avignon ( even outperforming the great Paul Bocuse). Definitely worth crossing the Rhone to visit this excellent restaurant.

In a village in the heart ofProvence, this amazingly restored monastery remains one of the great Relais et Châteaux properties. The rooms are functionally pleasant but the real treats are the gardens and the restaurant.
Featuring a great wine list from the region served with knowledge and confidence, this bilingual team presents dinner as it should be.

Excellent!

This was our first diner there in about 5 years (when we had mixed experiences). This evening was excellent: great food (a wonderful vegetable/veggy menu !), very pleasant setting, personable servieo and wonderful wine (at reasonable price). A true extension of L'Oustau !

If you had to create the perfect Provence getaway, it would be Le Prieure. Situated about twenty minutes from Avignon in the village of Villeneuve-les-Avignon, this multi-winged charmer sits off a small street and surrounds a beautifully landscaped courtyard and gardens and a separate, gorgeous, pool area. Serenity ++. Our room was a three-room suite with a separate toilet room; separate shower and bath; comfortable sitting area; and a great mattress. Only negative - terrible reading lighting throughout.

The place is wonderfully quiet and serene...one could loose oneself for hours on a chaise by the pool or on the patio. The staff is formal yet friendly, with an eagerness to help.

The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to Avignon, down a small hill and across the bridges...a great way to wander into town (although after dark a cab is recommended due to traffic).

The restaurant is fantastic...classic upscale French with all the trimmings and the service. The sommelier allowed us to pair a wine with each course, sharing a one-glass pour each time. We don't drink that much, and it was a nice way to sample numerous vintages without a physical or financial headache!

Pretty average large room, poorly arranged but with a fine bathroom suite....overall could do with a make.over......to be fair the hotel had been open only a week or so following its winter break.
However, the cuisine is special and the Chef is to be applauded and admired ....his sauces 10/10!.......and breakfast was good too.
Another good mark for the service which was polite, courteous and charming.

Room Tip: Stay in the hotel itself, avoid the extensions
