every room is different from the other and every detail is taken care of. Very "warm" coloured rooms make you feel at home. Original decor. the bidet is missing from the bathroom but that seems to be' quite normal in france. staff super Kind.

Room Tip: I was in the room 'angleterre', cheap and beautiful.

This property is rated as a 2* but probably could move into a 3* with a push.

The Hotel is centrally located in the village/small Town and on arrival the parking is a bit hit and miss as the Public Car park adjacent can be quite busy and during the day there is a limit as to how long you can park without needing to move around the block and repark.

The Hotel does have a few secure parking space in a large Garage just down the hill and it is free to park there.

The Rooms are all 'Upstairs' from the small reception and there is no lift. The rooms are all differently themed and priced but they are all far from expensive. The rooms are fairly basic but very clean and everything works. There is a TV but do not hunt for a minibar, safe, bath robes slippers etc. Here you pay for what you get !

The Bedroom was too warm and noisy with the window open. Obviously at these prices, Air Conditioning is not included.

The Lady who runs the Hotel is Charming and helpful and chilled a bottle of Burgundy in her freezer. I had bough the wine in the Wine shop opposite and she delivered it to our room with two wine glasses and a big smile !

The breakfast was a typicl continental one and One could imagine the Owner pedalling off to the bakers on her bike to buy fresh bread and pastries.

We were recommended a local Restaurant for our evening meal as there is no in Hotel facility and the Restaurant was excellent.

I would not rush back to this Hotel but if you are in the area on a touring holliday, it is great for a cheap one nighter,

Room Tip: The more expensive the better but they are all low cost !

We stayed for a night in the 'India' themed room and what a treat after a long bus ride and lots of hiking through the snow with a heavy backpack!
There are just six rooms in this hotel, which is great since it has a very homey, modern yet personal feel.
It's easy to find - just a straight walk up the road from the bus station, probably about ten to twelve minutes away. We weren't tempted by the hotels by the bus station and were glad we decided to venture onward.
The staff are friendly and speak English, which is great because my lack of ability to speak French is embarrassing, even to me.
The room was warm, the bed new and comfortable. The bathroom was large, as was the fabulous shower and the heating was on all night in both rooms (an important feature when the temperatures hit sub zero).
The price didn't include breakfast but that was fine since we had an early start to connect our next bus. Should I return to Oloron Ste Marie, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed in this hotel twice. It's very comfy. First of all, it's the warmest hotel I've been in during the winter season. The rooms are just delightful - each one with their own unique style and theme. The location is superb - right in the heart of Oloron with parking outside. The breakfast is copious. Not all hotels have their heating on during the winter period, but the owners have not spared any money in really ensuring your comfort.

We took up our walk along the Chemin Piemont at Oloron, where we left off last year and stayed at L'Astrolabe again, this time finding a handy place to eat in the shape of The Loft Cafe, which is tucked next to the Information office and offers a swish, modern bar alongside very acceptable and not expensive modern French food.

I whinged a bit about L'Astrolabe being away from most of the good restaurants in town last time but then found my error and wish to correct it. There are other alternatives to The Loft within easy walking distance of L'Astrolabe,as any fool should have known.

What hadn't changed from our last visit was the breezy and hospitable welcome from Petra and the quality, style and cleanliness of her rooms. We stayed in the English themed room this time and at 49 Euros,it was a steal. Tastefully restored antiques and matching draperies in the bedroom and modern fittings in the the bathroom reflect the owner's positive attitude to her calling.Breakfast is copious and fresh, excellent coffee is served and ham and cheese are offered to them as wants it.

This hotel is superb value for money and the town has something to offer in terms of its own cathedral, pleasant central square and surrounding magnificent landscape to suit many tastes. If all else fails,a cool beer outside L'Astrolabe with some of Oloron's finest whilst watching the traffic and the day go by is no bad way to spend an afternoon.
