This is a hidden gem among Oslo's hotels. Located on the edge of Oslo forest at the top of tall and steep hill. Lovely panorama of Ringerike district, Tyrifjorden lake and in the distance mountains. Good or very good food in the restaurant. Directly connected to the hiking trail network in the Oslo forest. By car from Sundvollen village in Hole district. Old wooden building with caracter. Very safe for kids as there is no traffic, road is dead end.

We stopped by while out in the forest geocaching. The hotel treated us as honored guests setting us up by a roaring fire with coffee and Aquavit. The service was amazing and the setting lovely. I highly recommend a visit to this special place.

I was there on a seminar with my employer and approx. 50 others. The facilities for seminars were good, but there were few toilets. Great food in the breaks, though.
What I will remember this hotel for is 1) the food, which was exceptional, and 2) the view onto the lake and the nearby surroundings.

Room Tip: Rooms can be really keen of hearing, so make sure you don't get surprises in the middle of the night when your nabor returns from a party with a new acquaintance.

Nice conference hotel, small basic rooms with paper thin walls. Good food unfortunately set menus for lunch that limit flexibility, well tasting breakfast. Basic conference rooms, but beautiful setting.

Room Tip: Ask for pillows before you go to bed

Kleivstua is centrally located to access a hiking and biking eldorado, Kroksskogen. a hilly wilderness just outside Oslo. For those who like to combine nature and culture, Kroksskogen abounds with cultural heritage sites too. Kleivstua adds its own value to all of this - the food is exquisite, there is a fair choice of good wines and the personell is service-minded and professional. Add soft beds and well furnished common rooms and you get the idea of what kind of place this is. It also compares well pricewise with other hotels in Norway. My first visit was in connection with a business seminar some years ago. I came back in June because I needed a softer place than usual as a starting point for a hiking trip with a pregnant daughter who could not hike in the mountains proper this year, lost my heart to the place and returned in fall to bike across Kroksskogen with friends. Its drawback is the 45 minutes drive from Oslo (by car or bus/taxi) but once there Kleivstua has provided all we need. Warmly recommended. Benedicte Brøgger
