Made welcome by charming and discreet hosts. Breakfast beautifully presented and many goods sourced locally. The castle is beautifully restored with gorgeous gardens and lovely views of the surrounding countryside. A most relaxing visit!

Room tip: Very comfortable with lovely linen and towels

A quick stopover but enough to feel the atmosphere! Thank you for your appreciation.
You are welcome for a in-depth discovery, if you wish...

Nothing fake. A true Monument Historique that has been attentively restored. Luxury and peace. Spectacular exterior space and views. Charming village. You feel far from modern civilization, but with every comfort, and you’re back on the Autoroute in minutes.

Thank you for your genuine review!
You have enjoyed it and this is very important to us. And it gives sense to sharing this "jewel" with you.
Eventually it could even help to better face modern civilization 's many challenges...

This was a great place to stay on our way to Lyon. We stayed one night and I wish we had booked more time there. It was a quiet, comfortable and very interesting place with wonderful owners who showed us other areas in the castle, giving us the history of the place.

That was nice and pleasant indeed to host you. We wish you had good time in Lyon too and we are looking forward to welcoming you again for what could be an opportunity to deeper discover our place and our region Auvergne.

Searching for an overnight stop when driving from the Loire Valley to Provence, this privately owned 13th century chateau seemed ideal. And it was! Physically imposing as it sits high on a hilltop overlooking the village. Met by the owner, who gave us a tour of the property and a brief history. The family rents five "units" in the castle, and lives there as well. Abundant materials to read about the region. Our room was spacious, decorated beautifully, the bedding was comfortable. There is a common room for the guests, with coffee, liquor, and snacks.A real treat was breakfast, with wonderful food prepared by the owner, in a marvelous kitchen. There is a historic church within walking distance, but not much else around for explorationThis was a perfect place to stay as a midpoint in our travels. Kudos to the Penicauds for the quality of their presentation, and the warmth of their welcome.

We have come here on our return from Dordogne unfortunately only for one short night. We had a chance to look at the beautiful gardens in the evening and enjoyed a great homemade breakfast the next morning. After dinner in a nearby village we relaxed in the library with tea and port. As said unfortunately no time for the full tour. The owners were lovely, though and we got a room upgrade that we thoroughly enjoyed. Next time we will come with our kids and more time.

We are very grateful to many hosts to come back to our place after a first experience. We are happy to become part of their routine when they move to their summer house in the south or on the west coast. We are happy too that they have understood our place and our region had much more to offer than a quick one night stop over. We are happy when they turn friends of us...but we are also happy to just make them happy.
